The voice of Scar in the Lion King has spoken:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must live more sustainably,\u201d he growls from Pride Rock \u2013 as he probably doesn\u2019t call a single one of his seven homes, not even the pink castle in Co Cork, because in real life he\u2019s not a lion at all but a Sherborne-educated luvvie who takes himself very, very seriously called Jeremy Irons. Irons has just announced his plans<\/a> to become an eco-campaigner. He wants to be a bit like Michael Moore, he says, only not \u201cas silly\u201d. Sounds fun, Jezza. Tell us more.<\/p>\n

The increasing global population would put an intolerable strain on the world\u2019s resources, Irons said, and the gulf between developing countries and westerners living a bountiful \u201cpie-in-the-sky\u201d existence must be addressed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cOne always returns to the fact that there are just too many of us, the population continues to rise and it\u2019s unsustainable,\u201d he said in an interview with The Sunday Times. \u201cI think we have to find ways where we\u2019re not having to scrap our effluent junk and are a really sustainable planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
