We can destroy our habitat on this planet, and it\u2019s the only one we got.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, May 17, MSNBC\u2019s Chris Matthews <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/37211652\">erupted in anger<\/a> at the  oil disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico. Matthews expressed his  rage at the profits BP continues to reap as it fails to fix the growing  environmental apocalypse.\u00a0 Brad Johnson has the story and the video:<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-25880\"><\/span> Matthews criticized the behavior of the Obama  administration. Matthews wondered why President Obama doesn\u2019t  \u201cnationalize that industry and get the job done\u201d and noted that in the  \u201cbrutal society\u201d of China, \u201cthey execute people for this\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is maddening that our government is \u2014 <strong>everybody  says, \u201cCapitalism is great. Unbridled free enterprise is great.\u201d Look  at it!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The moral hazard created by privatized profit and socialized risk has  allowed bankers to cripple our economy and energy companies to destroy  our planet. Matthews concluded by calling out the \u201cmillions of people in  the American right\u201d who deny the threats of climate change and other  environmental catastrophes from our dependence on fossil fuels:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"428\" height=\"260\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/hY-CyEYLiSk&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"428\" height=\"260\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/hY-CyEYLiSk&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rush Limbaugh fired back, saying Matthews is \u201cbasically <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/home\/daily\/site_051810\/content\/01125109.guest.html\">asking  for a dictator<\/a>\u201d with his \u201cdelusional, deranged\u201d commentary.  Matthews has repeated his criticism of BP and the administration,  telling Jay Leno on May 21 that President Obama is acting like \u201ca <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/chris-matthews-visits-jay-leno-admits-obama-handling-of-the-gulf-oil-spill-scares-him\/\">Vatican  observer here<\/a>.\u201d On May 19, Matthews asked for \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/37252607\">Harry Truman to come back  and do the job<\/a>\u201d \u2014 making reference to Truman\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/millercenter.org\/academic\/americanpresident\/events\/04_08\">seizure  of the steel industry<\/a> in 1952.<\/p>\n<p>Transcript:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I have a hunch that the reason they don\u2019t want to fix  this mess down there is because they would admit who did it if they fix  it.  Nobody is down \u2014 if this was a nuclear bomb ready to go off, we  would be down there.  I am so angry \u2014 I don\u2019t even want to talk about  it.  I get so mad at this oil company.  Why aren\u2019t they fixing it, first  of all? \u2026<\/p>\n<p>You know, I have a suspicion \u2014 I will go back to it again \u2014 I don\u2019t  think they\u2019re doing their best.  I don\u2018t think there\u2019s \u2014 the government  is doing its best.  Why doesn\u2019t the president go in there and  nationalize that industry and get the job done for the people? There\u2019s a  national interest in this, not just a BP interest. We\u2019re letting BP fix  a national problem.\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In China, it\u2019s a more brutal society, a more brutal society, Kate,  but they execute people for this. Major industrial leaders that commit  crimes like this. Failure like this.<\/p>\n<p>This is a serious, serious problem. It is not over. It continues to  destroy a part of our planet, basically. Part of our habitat, our  American habitat. And everybody just sits and watches television every  night and says, \u201cOh, well, that\u2018s interesting.\u201d And these guys are still  drawing their paychecks, still making their profits.  The oil industry  has been ballooning in profits this year, and nobody is doing anything  about it, except \u2014 what are we, the Vatican observers now?  We just  watch?  It is maddening that our government is \u2014 everybody says,  \u201cCapitalism is great.
