Various members of Elliniko&#8217;s town council have now joined Christos Kortzidi and are refusing to eat.<\/p>\n<p>Kortzidi is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/christos-kortzidis-starts-hunger-strike-to-protest-austerity-measures-2010-4\">protesting the government&#8217;s plan reduce costs by merging dozens of municipalities across Greece<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New pictures from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elliniko.gr\/\">Elliniko website<\/a> show the mayor alive and well. He&#8217;s got a framed poster of Che Guevera in his office, which suggests support for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/heres-how-the-greek-communist-party-plans-to-solve-the-crisis-2010-5\">growing Communist movement<\/a>. Kortzidi became famous in 2007 when he led a successful 24-day hunger strike to preserve free access to local beaches.<\/p>\n<p>Greek austerity measures are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/first-bailout-glitches-appears-as-greece-is-already-trying-to-renegoatiate-bailout-terms-2010-5\">not going smoothly<\/a>.
