The singing star, now 40, has reportedly been undergoing fertility treatments in hopes of conceiving a child with hubby Nick Cannon. Now she’s fueled pregnancy rumors after jumping ship on a new Tyler Perry drama, citing medical reasons.<\/p>\n

The singer was slated to follow up her award-winning success in the Lee Daniels drama Precious<\/em> by appearing in Perry’s film adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf<\/em>, set to begin shooting next month. However, Carey mysteriously pulled out this week, offering little explanation.<\/p>\n

Her rep hasn’t been much help either.<\/p>\n

“She is not doing the movie because her doctor advised her not to,”<\/em> the star’s publicist Cindy Berger tells PEOPLE.com. “More than that I cannot comment further.”<\/em><\/p>\n

For Colored Girls<\/em> will begin filming as scheduled, featuring an all-star cast, which includes: Janet Jackson, Kimberly Elise, Whoopi Goldberg, Kerry Washington, Macy Gray, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Loretta Devine and Anika Noni Rose.<\/p>\n
