Docherty is one of several GM executives to have risen under the tutelage of former-CEO Fritz Henderson but has been observed to fade under new CEO Ed Whitacre. About half of GM&#8217;s sales come from international operations, covering 90 markets. In a statement, Whitacre said that GM is relying on Docherty to make a significant <span id=\"more-41654\"><\/span> contribution to the company\u2019s growth in China and other emerging markets.
