{"id":582043,"date":"2010-05-27T18:49:35","date_gmt":"2010-05-27T22:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/?p=85912"},"modified":"2010-05-27T18:49:35","modified_gmt":"2010-05-27T22:49:35","slug":"clinton-says-the-wealthy-%e2%80%98are-not-paying-their-fair-share%e2%80%99","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/582043","title":{"rendered":"Clinton Says the Wealthy \u2018Are Not Paying Their Fair Share\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/bensmith\/0510\/Clinton_The_rich_are_not_paying_their_fair_share.html\">excellent catch<\/a> from Ben Smith at Politico &#8212; today, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton made a rare comment on the domestic economic situation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;The rich are not paying their fair share in any nation that is  facing the kind of employment issues [America currently does] &#8212; whether  it&#8217;s individual, corporate or whatever [form of] taxation  forms,&#8221;\u00a0Clinton told an audience at the Brookings Institution, where she  was discussing the Administration&#8217;s new National Security Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Clinton said the comment was her personal opinion alone. &#8220;I&#8217;m not  speaking for the administration, so I&#8217;ll preface that with a very clear  caveat,&#8221; she said.<span id=\"more-85912\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Clinton went on to cite Brazil as a model. &#8220;Brazil has the highest tax-to-GDP rate in the Western Hemisphere and  guess what &#8212; they&#8217;re growing like crazy,&#8221; Clinton said. &#8220;And the rich  are getting richer, but they&#8217;re pulling people out of poverty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Indeed: In Brazil, the rich are getting richer, but so are the poor.
