{"id":58222,"date":"2009-10-29T12:37:00","date_gmt":"2009-10-29T17:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blog.cookingwithtraderjoes.com,2009-10-29:159b7f61-34a1-45fb-80db-0803a87dc1f3"},"modified":"2009-10-29T12:37:00","modified_gmt":"2009-10-29T17:37:00","slug":"mashed-boo-tatoes-and-other-halloween-ideas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/58222","title":{"rendered":"Mashed Boo-Tatoes and other Halloween ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 275px;\" src=\"http:\/\/images.quickblogcast.com\/2\/4\/6\/4\/2\/133294-124642\/MashedBooTatoes.jpg?a=20\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\"><\/p>\n<div> Earlier this week, we made <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cookingwithtraderjoes.com\/2009\/10\/27\/halloween-finger-foods.aspx\">Halloween finger foods <\/a>like hot dog mummies and witch fingers using crescent roll dough and puff pastry.&nbsp; The fun continues with even more Hallowen-themed foods that should spruce up any party!<\/p>\n<p>First are <strong>Mashed Boo-Tatoes<\/strong>, a really cute side dish idea from Martha Stewart.&nbsp; Trader Joe&#8217;s sells frozen mashed potatoes, or you can make your own.&nbsp; Simply &#8220;pipe&#8221; out ghosts using a piping bag if you&#8217;re fancy, or just make your own using a Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off.&nbsp; For these, you&#8217;ll want to cut a fairly generous hole, about 1\/2&#8243; in diameter.&nbsp; Squeeze out the mashed potatoes, lifting the bag as you go along to create an upright ghost.&nbsp; You can wet your fingers and create a pointy head if it doesn&#8217;t form naturally.&nbsp; Black sesame seeds are the perfect size for eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Also shown here are little pumpkin shaped mashed butternut squash, or you could also use mashed sweet potatoes, yams, or pumpkin.&nbsp; Pipe out a ball of squash, and decorate with pecan pieces for stems and herbs such as dill, cilantro, or parsley for leaves.&nbsp; Serve with our Turkey Mini Meat Loaves.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 275px; height: 184px;\" src=\"http:\/\/images.quickblogcast.com\/2\/4\/6\/4\/2\/133294-124642\/CobwebGuacamole2.JPG?a=4\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\"><\/p>\n<div> <\/div>\n<p><strong>Cobweb Guacamole<\/strong> is super easy using pre-made guacamole and sour cream.&nbsp; Place sour cream in a Ziploc bag and snip off a small corner for the webbing.&nbsp; Pipe out cobweb design.&nbsp; Since guacamole turns brown, you don&#8217;t really want to make this ahead of time.&nbsp; Serve with your favorite quesadillas for a fun Halloween meal. <\/p>\n<p>Finally, end the meal with these cute <strong>Halloween Cupcakes<\/strong>.&nbsp; Deana made these for a Halloween party yesterday and they were an absolute hit.&nbsp; The butter cream frosting recipe is from the Magnola bakery: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recipelink.com\/cookbooks\/2005\/0743246616_4.html\" >www.recipelink.com\/<wbr>cookbooks\/2005\/0743246616_4.<wbr>html<\/a>.&nbsp; Or you could use lightly sweetened whipped cream for a lighter version.&nbsp; Remember to let cupakes cool completely before frosting, or the frosting will melt!<\/p>\n<p>Garnish ideas, pictured from left to right:<br \/>1) <strong>Halloween confetti<\/strong> with chocolate covered sunflower seeds.&nbsp; We love these because they are colored using natural foods such as spinach, turmeric, and beets.<br \/>2) <strong>Ghost faces<\/strong>.&nbsp; Use chocolate chips in 2 different sizes for eyes and mouth.<br \/>3) <strong>Mummy faces<\/strong>.&nbsp; Use dollops of icing and then chocolate chips nestled on top for the eyes.<br \/>4) <strong>Pumpkin Gummies<\/strong> using Ghoulie Tummy Gummies, gummy candy from Trader Joe&#8217;s.<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 400px; height: 267px;\" src=\"http:\/\/images.quickblogcast.com\/2\/4\/6\/4\/2\/133294-124642\/Halloweencupcakes.JPG?a=72\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\"> <\/p>\n<div> <\/div>\n<p>Happy trick or treating!<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, we made Halloween finger foods like hot dog mummies and witch fingers using crescent roll dough and puff pastry.&nbsp; The fun continues with even more Hallowen-themed foods that should spruce up any party!
