Vagrant finds a home in the Amazon cloud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Development teams love\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vagrantup.com\/about.html\">Vagrant<\/a>, the open-source tool that automates &#8212; and really speeds up &#8212; configuration of the virtual environments they need to build and test software. \u00a0Now Hashicorp is previewing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hashicorp.com\/blog\/preview-vagrant-aws.html\">Vagrant plug-in for Amazon Web Services<\/a>\u00a0that will let developers who use Vagrant for local configuration, hook right into Amazon&#8217;s public cloud as well.<\/p>\n<p>Reached by email, Hashimoto said there is pent-up demand for this product.<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"quote-vagrant-aws-is-a-big\">\n<p>&#8220;Vagrant + AWS is a big deal because it is the first time developers can use Vagrant outside of their own local machines. This unlocks capabilities never before seen with Vagrant before. Last November, he launched <a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2012\/11\/28\/startup-hashicorp-wants-to-take-the-grind-out-of-development-setup\/\">Hashicorp<\/a> to bring Vagrant &#8212; which thus far only supports Oracle VirtualBox &#8212; \u00a0to more mainstream platforms including <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/58059557\">VMware<\/a>\u00a0Fusion, Workstation and vSphere. That support is still on its way.<br \/> According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hashicorp.com\/blog\/preview-vagrant-aws.html\">the web post<\/a> announcing the AWS news:<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"quote-using-the-same-vagra2\">\n<p>&#8220;Using the same Vagrant workflow you\u2019ve come to know and love, you will be able to launch and provision instances in EC2 or VPC, just as you would a VirtualBox machine today.\u00a0Paired with local virtualization, the AWS provider can vastly improve your end-to-end workflow, unlocking use cases for Vagrant which simply didn\u2019t exist before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hashicorp is now offering a sneak peek at its AWS provider plug-in for Vagrant 1.1 which will be made available under the open-source MIT License.
