In the article, Kish demonstrates how big government and heavy-handed regulations harm Americans:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=c6c08f3d46&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >Steven Chu and the Hubris of Big Government<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><strong>By Daniel Kish &#8212; 2\/16\/2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Obama has been seeing off loyal retainers from his first term, and recently he bid adieu to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=82ca57274e&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >Steven Chu<\/a>, his in-house Nobel Laureate and secretary of energy. In doing so, the president praised\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage1.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=d6c236ad52&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >Mr. Chu<\/a>\u00a0for \u201cdesigning a cap to plug a hole in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico when nobody else could figure it out.\u201d This was in reference to the 2010\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=a54af85f36&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >BP<\/a>\u00a0oil spill known as \u201cDeepwater Horizon.\u201d The problem is,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=670c685d73&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >Mr. Chu<\/a>\u00a0did not design the containment cap; the hardworking engineers of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=7b653625c9&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >BP<\/a>\u00a0and its private sector contractors did that, working night and day from the moment of the disaster. Any energy business that had expertise offered to help, and many did.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/americanenergyalliance.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=7cbc7dd79831a84c870f9842e&amp;id=14d9b6d92d&amp;e=201ef0d61b\" >Mr. Chu<\/a>\u00a0is a brilliant man and has done the world a service by his work in optical physics, including his Nobel prize work involving light and atoms. Still, Mr. Obama giving him credit for the cap fits perfectly with the central conceit of liberalism in general, and the dangerous path down which Mr. Obama is leading the nation.<\/p>\n<p>When the president shouted out, \u201cYou did not build that\u201d during the latest campaign, he was echoing a central tenet of the liberal credo: Government \u2014 not free citizens or the businesses or works they create \u2014 is responsible for the progress that Americans have achieved over the last two centuries. Government can set and enforce rules that enable individuals and businesses to take risks, innovate, invest, succeed and fail.
