{"id":643463,"date":"2013-02-22T09:16:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T14:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.webpronews.com\/?p=218217"},"modified":"2013-02-22T09:16:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-22T14:16:41","slug":"laura-bush-gay-marriage-ad-must-drop-her-image","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/643463","title":{"rendered":"Laura Bush: Gay Marriage Ad Must Drop Her Image"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week, the Respect for Marriage coalition, a pro-gay-marriage partnership between dozens of organizations (such as the AFL-CIO and the ACLU) committed to ending the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), released a short ad titled &#8220;Leadership.&#8221;  The ad featured heavy american symbolism, such as the multiple U.S. flags and a family picnic.  The ad also featured quotes that seem to support <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webpronews.com\/tag\/gay-marriage\">gay marriage<\/a> from political figures such as former U.S. General Colin Powell, former Vice President Dick Cheney, President Obama, and former First Lady Laura Bush.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"616\" height=\"347\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9LiLNVYjOAI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Though all of the clips shown in the ad are from public appearances, it seems that not everyone is happy having their words used to promote marriage equality.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Bush has requested that the organization remove her image and words from the ad.  The Dallas Morning News has <a href=\"http:\/\/trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com\/2013\/02\/former-first-lady-laura-bush-asks-to-be-removed-from-newly-launched-pro-gay-marriage-ad-campaign.html\/\">quoted<\/a> a Bush family spokesperson as saying that Bush &#8220;did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The coalition has responded quickly to Bush&#8217;s request, and issued a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2013\/02\/laura-bush-wants-off-gay-marriage-ad-87904.html\">statement<\/a> to Politico stating their disappointment that she did not want her words in the ad.
