{"id":644318,"date":"2013-02-27T13:43:12","date_gmt":"2013-02-27T18:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/?p=615063"},"modified":"2013-02-27T13:43:12","modified_gmt":"2013-02-27T18:43:12","slug":"after-investor-drama-apple-shareholder-meeting-is-anticlimactic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/644318","title":{"rendered":"After investor drama, Apple shareholder meeting is anticlimactic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shareholder meetings are typically colossally boring affairs, and Apple&#8217;s annual meeting Wednesday morning in Cupertino, Calif. didn&#8217;t deviate from this truism of the business world.<\/p>\n<p>And this was despite fireworks over the weeks leading up the meeting: <a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2013\/02\/22\/apple-investor-wins-bid-to-block-shareholder-vote\/\"> a federal judge issued an injunction <\/a>on one of the company&#8217;s shareholder proposals after a hedge fund sued; the same firm, Greenlight Capital, publicly laid out <a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2013\/02\/21\/activist-investor-proposes-unconventional-plan-to-boost-apples-stock\/\">a case for a new class of Apple stock<\/a>, and another investor <a href=\"http:\/\/tech.fortune.cnn.com\/2013\/02\/27\/apple-stock-split-kass-twitter\/\">fanned rumors of a stock split<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class='twitter-tweet'>\n<p>FLASH: Quorum present at Apple shareholderZZZZzzzzzzzz&#8212; <br \/>John Paczkowski (@JohnPaczkowski) <a href='http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/JohnPaczkowski\/status\/306816280445468672' data-datetime='2013-02-27T17:21:16+00:00'>February 27, 2013<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead, when all was said and done Wednesday, nothing of huge significance actually took place. But some things did happen.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/appleinsider.com\/articles\/13\/02\/27\/apple-shareholders-reelect-board-reject-outside-proposals-on-stock-retention-human-rights-committee\">All Apple board members were re-elected<\/a> and two proposals put to shareholders did not pass: one on a requirement that executives hold a certain amount of company stock, and another that would require a board committee for human rights.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll be shocked &#8212; shocked! &#8212; to find out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2013\/2\/27\/4036272\/tim-cook-apple-shareholder-meeting\">CEO Tim Cook also doesn&#8217;t not like <\/a>that Apple&#8217;s stock has been dropping over the past few months.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/news.cnet.com\/8301-13579_3-57571455-37\/apple-re-elects-board-mum-about-stock-split\/\">Cook did address the Greenlight Capital lawsuit<\/a>, and reiterated his earlier comment that the suit was a &#8220;silly sideshow&#8221; even after losing that battle in court.<\/li>\n<li>There was no announcement regarding any additional plan to return more of its $137 billion in cash to shareholders.
