Instead, Ramirez said that web users needed &#8220;a persistent Do Not Track mechanism that allows consumers to stop control of data across all sites, and not just for targeting ads.&#8221; Both <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/tag\/google\">Google<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/2012\/02\/23\/google-and-other-advertisers-agree-to-honor-do-not-track-browser-feature\/\">the Digital Advertising Alliance last year agreed<\/a> to adhere to a Do Not Track system that lets users restrict the data that \u00a0websites can collect about them through cookies. However, the DAA drew some significant criticism last year when it announced that its members <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/2012\/08\/08\/microsoft-do-not-track-internet-explorer-10\/\">would not honor the Do Not Track settings of Microsoft&#8217;s Internet Explorer browser<\/a> because it made Do Not Track the default option for users.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/TheBoyGeniusReport\/~4\/6_VPiWxIPYM\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Trade Commission&#8217;s new chairwoman doesn&#8217;t trust advertising companies to play by the honor system.
