{"id":655035,"date":"2013-04-07T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/serkadis.com\/index\/?guid=140ba77f5418c0e561a55f256e49d461"},"modified":"2013-04-07T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-08T00:00:00","slug":"news-story-death-of-lady-thatcher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/655035","title":{"rendered":"News story: Death of Lady Thatcher"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Prime Minister David Cameron has<a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.number10.gov.uk\/news\/statement-on-death-of-lady-thatcher\/\"> made a statement<\/a>at Downing Street following the death of Lady Thatcher:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Margaret Thatcher didn\u2019t just lead our country; she saved our country.\u00a0 And we should never forget that the odds were stacked against her.\u00a0 She was the shopkeeper\u2019s daughter from Grantham who made it all the way to the highest office in the land.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He paid tribute to her patriotism:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">For many of us, she was an inspiration.\u00a0 For others, she was a force to be defined against.\u00a0 But if there is one thing that cuts through all of this, one thing that runs through everything that she did, it was her lionhearted love of this country.\u00a0 She was the patriot Prime Minister, and she fought for Britain\u2019s interests every step of the way.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier, the Prime Minister\u00a0gave his initial\u00a0reaction to the news of\u00a0death of the UK\u2019s first female Prime Minister:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It was with great sadness that l learned of Lady Thatcher\u2019s death. We\u2019ve lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It followed the announcement that Baroness Thatcher died in London at the age of 87. <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.number10.gov.uk\/past-prime-ministers\/margaret-thatcher\/\">Serving from 1979 to 1990<\/a>, she was the UK\u2019s first female Prime Minister and the longest serving of the 20th century.<\/p>\n<p>In Downing Street, the Union flag was flying at half mast following the announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Number 10 website has a <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/pm.cabinetoffice.gov.uk\/condolences\/\">condolence page<\/a>on which people\u00a0are able to write private messages for the Thatcher family.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It has also been announced that Lady Thatcher will receive a Ceremonial funeral with military honours at London\u2019s St Paul\u2019s Cathedral.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lady Thatcher\u2019s family have asked that, if people wish to pay their respects, they consider making a donation to the Royal Hospital Chelsea, rather than laying flowers.
