Leading global companies like GE, P&#038;G, and Nestl\u00e9 use the canvas to manage strategy or create new growth engines, while start-ups use it in their search for the right business model. The canvas&#8217;s main objective is to help companies move beyond product-centric thinking and towards business model thinking.<\/p>\n<p>To start, it lets you look at all nine building blocks of your business on one page:<\/p>\n<div class=\"blog-video-embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"580\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QoAOzMTLP5s\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Each of these nine components contains a series of hypotheses about your business model that you need to test (click or tap for a bigger version):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hbr.org\/cs\/canvas.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Business Model Canvas\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.hbr.org\/cs\/assets_c\/2013\/04\/canvas-thumb-580x377-3903.gif\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0 auto 20px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nespresso, a fully owned daughter company of Nestl\u00e9, is a great example of a powerful business model. It changed the face of the coffee industry by turning a transactional business (selling coffee through retail) into one with recurring revenues (selling proprietary pods through direct channels).
