The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/twincities\/morning_roundup\/2013\/05\/target-launches-facebook-focused.html\">Minneapolis St Paul Business Journal<\/a> reports on Target partnering with Facebook on a new social media app\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/profiles\/company\/us\/mn\/minneapolis\/target_corp\/2584877\">Target Corp.<\/a>\u00a0is teaming with Facebook for a new digital-sales program, called Cartwheel, that&#8217;s one of the biggest-ever efforts by both companies to bridge the worlds of social media and real-world commerce.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ad Age<\/em> reports on the program, launched by Minneapolis-based Target, <a href=\"http:\/\/adage.com\/article\/digital\/target-teams-facebook-deals-share\/241341\/\">which will let customers select promotional deals at Target through their Facebook accounts.<\/a>\u00a0If they make the buy, their activity is shared with friends through their Facebook news feed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On the one hand it\u2019s cool and I always like a bargain, on the other hand I wonder how much I want my friends to see what I\u2019m buying or frankly to know what they\u2019re buying. Apparently they are thinking about that aspect of the project \u2013 but I have to wonder what constitutes a personal purchase. Using their example below, I don\u2019t care if people know I buy underwear \u2013 but no one needs to know about daily purchases of gummi bears. Personal is in the eye of the beholder!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Ad Age<\/em>\u00a0notes that Cartwheel is similar to a Facebook offering called Beacon, <a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2009\/09\/19\/facebook-beacon-rip\/\">which was shelved<\/a> after a backlash over privacy. Target seems to have that in mind.
