It is very start-up-y.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The Beirut Marathon &#8212; which was founded by Session 6 speaker\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/conferences.ted.com\/TEDGlobal2013\/program\/speakers.php#1621\">May El-Khalil<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; will hold its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beirutmarathon.org\/10k-womens-challenge\/\">10K Women&#8217;s Challenge<\/a>\u00a0this Sunday, May 26. It will be the first all-female race in Beirut. In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ziggydoodle\/status\/321307035469770755\">this tweet<\/a>, May El-Khalil&#8217;s daughter,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ted.com\/2012\/10\/12\/beirut-i-love-you-fellows-friday-with-zena-el-khalil\/\">Zena<\/a>, suggests that people run it wearing pink!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conferences.ted.com\/TEDGlobal2013\/program\/speakers.php#1576\">Gabriele Gomez-Mont<\/a>, who\u2019ll co-host the session \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.ted.com\/2013\/05\/21\/the-world-on-its-head-a-qa-about-the-ideas-behind-this-exciting-tedglobal-session\/\">The World on Its Head<\/a>,\u201d has been named an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iftf.org\/future-now\/article-detail\/meet-the-future-for-good-fellows\/\">IFTF Fellow<\/a>. This is the Institute for the Future\u2019s inaugural group of fellows, selected for their passion in creating innovative solutions to the world\u2019s toughest problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>CNN has profiled false memory expert <a href=\"http:\/\/conferences.ted.com\/TEDGlobal2013\/program\/speakers.php#1573\">Elizabeth Loftus<\/a>, who\u2019ll speak during the session \u201cExquisite Enigmatic Us.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/05\/18\/health\/lifeswork-loftus-memory-malleability\/index.html\">CNN<\/a> writes of this fascinating researcher: \u201cOne conversation with Elizabeth Loftus may shake your confidence in everything you think you remember \u2026 Her work is reminiscent of films like <i>Memento<\/i> and <i>Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/i> where what you believe happened is probably far from the truth.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Here\u2019s a fascinating interview with economist <a href=\"http:\/\/conferences.ted.com\/TEDGlobal2013\/program\/speakers.php#1567\">Dambisa Moyo<\/a> via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/video\/conversations_with_slate\/2013\/05\/dambisa_moyo_gender_discrimination_african_born_female_economist_on_career.html\">Slate<\/a> &#8212; in which she suggests how Bill Gates might better help Africa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conferences.ted.com\/TEDGlobal2013\/program\/speakers.php#1570\">Chrystia Freeland<\/a>, the author of the book <i>Plutocrats<\/i> who\u2019ll speak during the session \u201cMoney Talks,\u201d wrote an essay for Reuters called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/mobilebeta.reuters.com\/poor-little-rich-kids\">Poor Little Rich Kids<\/a>.\u201d The deeply surprising thesis: \u00a0rising spending on education in the upper classes is not only challenging social mobility, but actually turning upper-middle-class kids into an at-risk group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/conferences.ted.com\/TEDGlobal2013\/program\/speakers.php#1616\">Apollo Robbins<\/a> is co-hosting the National Geographic Channel show <a href=\"http:\/\/braingames.nationalgeographic.com\/\"><i>Brain Games<\/i><\/a>.
