{"id":661692,"date":"2013-06-06T08:24:39","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T12:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/serkadis.com\/index\/?guid=462d863dce57573540a047a5989f7958"},"modified":"2013-06-06T08:24:39","modified_gmt":"2013-06-06T12:24:39","slug":"news-story-prime-minister-looks-ahead-to-g8-nutrition-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/661692","title":{"rendered":"News story: Prime Minister looks ahead to G8 nutrition event"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Prime Minister today welcomed \u2018Enough Food for Everyone IF\u2019 supporter David Walliams and 100 school children from across the UK to Downing Street ahead of Saturday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/g8-2013\">G8<\/a> event \u2018Nutrition for Growth: Beating Hunger through Business and Science\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of Saturday\u2019s event, the Prime Minister said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019m proud of the UK\u2019s leadership in the fight against global hunger. Having fired the gun at last year\u2019s Olympic Hunger Summit, the Nutrition for Growth event will be an opportunity for everyone \u2014 and that includes governments, business, scientists and NGOs \u2014 to step up and make a lasting difference in tackling under-nutrition and improve children \u2018s life chances.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The children had been invited to showcase plates they had decorated in support of the \u2018Enough Food for Everyone IF\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The UK will be seeking to secure ambitious commitments from everyone attending to address under-nutrition and food insecurity at the event. Ahead of the event, the Prime Minister has been speaking to leaders and NGOs to secure this much needed ambition.<\/p>\n<p>Undernutrition is an underlying cause of 45% of deaths amongst children under five, while nearly 165 million suffer from stunting which stops children\u2019s bodies from developing properly. This has a devastating impact of the future productivity in these countries.
