The number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blisstree.com\/articles\/its-kitten-season\/\">pets<\/a> in shelters increased during the housing crisis. That means that many rescues were stretched thin, and now is a very wonderful time of the year to give to your favorite animal charity. The gift doesn&#8217;t have to be large to make a difference.<\/p>\n<p>One pet charity that particularly needs your help this year is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orphankittenrescue.com\/\">Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association<\/a><\/strong> (VOKRA). They are a 100% volunteer and donation driven no-kill animal charity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-136438\" src=\"http:\/\/images1.blisstree.com\/files\/2009\/12\/homelss-kitten.jpg\" alt=\"homelss-kitten\" width=\"400\" height=\"261\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Due to a couple of huge and unexpected rescue operations in 2009 and the recession, VOKRA is facing the possibility of having to close their doors to rescues and discontinue other important\u00a0 animal work.<\/p>\n<p>The group <strong>rescued more than 1,000 cats<\/strong> in 2009, and they also participate in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blisstree.com\/articles\/interview-gregory-castle-on-community-cats-tnr-692\/\">TNR<\/a><\/strong>, as well as spays and neuters for cats belonging to low-income individuals and families.
