The winning entry focuses on sustainability and renewable energy generation for a low environmental impact. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.instablogsimages.com\/images\/2009\/12\/22\/municipality-of-aarhus-office-building_2_7I86c_69.jpg\" alt=\"municipality of aarhus office building_2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The first-of-its-kind office building features 1100 square meters of photovoltaic cells for producing electricity and an addition 420 square meters of solar thermal panels for absorption cooling and heating water. The building\u2019s fa\u00e7ade features the use of recycled glass, and according to the designers, 96% of the materials from the demolished building on site will be reused.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.instablogsimages.com\/images\/2009\/12\/22\/municipality-of-aarhus-office-building_3_VHUB9_69.jpg\" alt=\"municipality of aarhus office building_3\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The new building will provide space for 240 staff members and their clients. Access to the new building will be through an existing alley of unique and beautiful plane trees.
