{"id":94379,"date":"2009-12-22T14:29:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-22T19:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ceo-of-goldman-sachs-owned-molycorp-is-psyched-about-treasurys-protectionist-attitude-towards-china-and-gold-mining-2009-12"},"modified":"2009-12-22T14:29:00","modified_gmt":"2009-12-22T19:29:00","slug":"ceo-of-goldman-sachs-owned-molycorp-is-psyched-about-treasurys-protectionist-attitude-towards-china-and-gold-mining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/94379","title":{"rendered":"CEO Of Goldman Sachs-Owned Molycorp Is Psyched About Treasury&#8217;s Protectionist Attitude Towards China And Gold Mining"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week we flagged an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/treasury-tells-obama-to-block-chinese-investment-in-nevada-gold-mine-2009-12\">interesting announcement<\/a> from The Treasury regarding a proposed invesment from China in a gold mine in Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>In announcing its intention to block the deal, the Treasury cited national security issues.<\/p>\n<p>Well this is music to the ears of Molycorp &#8212; a company engaged in the mining of rare earth metals &#8212; which has received <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/why-is-goldman-sachs-getting-congressional-earmarks-2009-10\">subsidies from the government<\/a>, as well as a major investment from Goldman Sachs (GS).<\/p>\n<p>The company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/goldman-sachs-mining-subsidiary-playing-up-fears-of-chinese-rare-earth-dominance-2009-10\">has made a big deal<\/a> out of the fact that that China is expanding its global mining share, and thus it should be eligible for subsidies. In fact, it&#8217;s big strategy seems to be playing the scare card.<\/p>\n<p>And so we&#8217;re not surprise to see this <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Molycorp\/statuses\/6937196469\">approving Tweet out of the company<\/a> in regards to the move from Treasury.
