Much attention has been paid to the hair loss men often endure as they age, but what about women? They don’t often experience the same male pattern baldness, but women can and do lose their hair or experience a significant thinning. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 30 million women have hereditary hair loss (compared to 50 million men), and millions more women have hair loss related to menopause or health problems. Over at The New York Times‘ Well blog, Lesley Alderman shares her own experience with hair loss. Her trichologist (hair specialist) ran some tests, told her not to worry, and sent her home with a bottle of expensive shampoo. But Alderman was still a wreck.
