The last time we saw the Dr. he told us that my husband should keep increasing his dosage until the Fasting #’s come down. He ended up with 42 units Lantus in the AM.
We feel that is a little high, since we just started following Dr. Bernstein’s excellent plan (as close as we can afford to, anyway).
Should we gradually drop down every 2-3 days, or what?
We had a meeting with the pharmacist team (I believe they are mostly in training and use us a Guinea pigs). When they read the profile sheet and saw 42 units a day, the leader told us we had found the ‘sweet spot.’ That sounded like a car salesman’s pitch and it has been rankling in our subconscious.
Now, reading Dr. Berstein’s book, he speaks of a dose of 27 units daily as ‘Massive.’ Says too much can cause insulin resistance.
We would appreciate advice from you folks. He gets his 1st 3 month A1c next Tues. and sees the Dr. the following week. We would like to be straightened out before we get there. He is a nice young man but he is only a Physicians Assistant and can not have too much experience. You folks have ‘been there, done that.’
Regards,
Janice & Husband
P.S. Today was his lowest fasting # EVER = 87 😀
