WordPress for BlackBerry updated, now in App World

Over the past few years WordPress has gone through some extensive upgrades, extending its reach as one of the top blogging platforms. One improvement we’ve been tracking is its BlackBerry application. It started off as a simple app where you could write and edit posts, but they’ve continued adding new features and upgrading existing ones. After firing it up yesterday afternoon, I saw that there’s a new version. Instead of just downloading, though, it sent me via link to App World. So the app is now available over there.

The app is still free, of course, so you can continue writing and editing posts, and managing your blog on the go. It also works wonders when the internet goes out. Whenever my internet goes haywire, I wrote posts on my computer, transfer the file (or email it) to my BlackBerry, open it with Documents ToGo, and copy and paste it into WordPress. It’s a few extra steps, but it’s the best you can do for someone who doesn’t have a tethering plan.

The biggest addition in v1.0 is video integration. You can record and upload videos right from your phone using VideoPress. It also improves on the comments management section, something I was discussing with a friend not two days ago. It also supposedly runs faster, but I haven’t noticed much during my initial runs through it.

If you already have the WordPress BlackBerry application, just fire it up and you’ll get a prompt to reboot. If you don’t, you can get it at App World.
