Eco Factor: Energy-saving building to be designed by Henning Larsen Architects.
Henning Larsen Architects have won the assignment to design the new building for the University of Southern Denmark, which will be inaugurated in 2013. The building will be built in the town of Kolding, where students and employees will be provided with a study and work environment in a class of its own.
The energy consumption of the building will be so low that it will be classified as a low-energy class 1 building. It will also be the first low-energy university building in Denmark with an energy consumption of just 48 kWh/m2/year, which is about 25 percent of the energy consumed by similar buildings.
The architects are already in the earliest phases of the project and their main focus is on optimizing the energy consumption of the building. The company building with a spatial arrangement will provide the opportunity for natural light and ventilation. In the design phase, architects and engineers have collaborated on further optimizing the design in order to maintain a high level of ambition as regards the environmental sustainability of the building.
