Youth programs sponsored:
LAPD Cadets – The Los Angeles Police Cadets (formerly "Explorers") Program has been a very successful youth program. The purpose of the Explorer program is to provide special training to the youth that are preparing themselves for a career in law enforcement. Goals of the Explorer Program are to recruit young men and women (ages 14-21) to prepare them for future careers in law enforcement, encourage them toward being contributing citizens to their community, and developing positive relationships between the police and the youth.
Police Activity League – P.A.L. is a youth crime prevention program that relies on educational, athletic and other recreational activities to cement a bond of trust and understanding between police officers and the youth in our community. This bond of respect for police officers and the law is beneficial to the young person, the police officer, the neighborhood, and the business community. PAL serves disadvantaged youth, ages 7-17. ~ Thank you Officer Godfrey!
Jeopardy Program – The Jeopardy Program is gang prevention/ intervention program for boys and girls ages 8 through 17 and their parents. Jeopardy combines the strength of the community, neighborhood schools and the police department to effect positive, lifelong attitudinal changes in the young people so as to have a positive impact on the community. Jeopardy targets "at risk" children, offering a variety of educational and physical projects, from tutoring to martial arts. The goals of the Jeopardy Program are to reduce truancy, increase graduation rates and improve life-affirming skills with a end goal of decreasing gang and crime involvement.
