Last week it was the slider and the 9650. This week we’ve moved onto the Pearl, as expected. We’re on a device cycle now, with a few expected to be released in the near future — though I’m not sure on the slider. Anyway, the Pearl news includes a possible release date, and more.

Highlights include:
Seriously, a 12-key keypad for the Pearl? Not the 9100, of course. We don’t have much longer to wait on that one, and it figures to come as expected. But there was a patent filing recently that placed your basic 12-key buttons on a BlackBerry Pearl. I don’t see the point, and let you know exactly why, in excruciating detail, on the podcast.
Also, an issue with the Tour OS 5.0 update. When I hit my lock key the screen goes blank, as if I went into standby mode. No buttons light up the screen except escape. This is only slightly annoying, and will likely save a little battery life. But has anyone else encountered it? If so, how to fix? I’ve poked around a bit in options and haven’t seen anything to that effect.
If you’re looking to pay for apps on your cell phone bill, you’ll be able to soon. You can now, even, if you have a Storm2. Verizon has released its own app store and plans to integrate it on more BlackBerry models in the near future. Will it beat out App World?
