About twice a week or so I make sure to check out the new additions to the BBGeeks Store. In one my weekly checks I stumbled upon two applications from the same developer that I thought were particularly useful for BlackBerry users. The first, deProcMan, isn’t a unique application. It helps save memory and prevent memory leak, something a number of other applications do. The other, however, deBattGym, does something I haven’t quite seen. It “works out” your battery in order to provide you with the longest lasting battery possible. Both sound like decent additions for any BlackBerry.
We’ll start with the odder one first. For various articles over the years I’ve done a bit of research on lithium-ion batteries, which you now find in most electronic devices. One site I frequented was Battery University. What I learned there is that it’s best to recharge your battery before it gets low, and to charge it until it’s full. Yet, despite all I’ve read about it, I’ve never been able to keep up with such a regimen. The point behind deBattGym is to automate the process as much as possible. The application will keep track of your charging habits and tell you the optimal time to plug it in. It monitors battery temperature, voltage level, and charge status.
Their other application, deProcMan, essentially acts as a task and process manager. It not only lists your memory stats and your running apps, but it helps to recover memory by identifying processes that run in the background. You can also set up third party applications to run at startup, saving you time.
You can get deProcMan and deBattGym on a 15-day trial. After that they cost $4.99 each. The store is running s combination special, though, which allows you to get both applications for $8.98.
