We’ve seen plenty of developers release call blocking applications lately. With an increasing number of unwanted calls from telemarketers — many of them claiming that you have “no problems with your credit card account,” but to hang on the line — having solid filter can be useful. You can find many of these application in our BlackBerry applications archives. For the most part these are premium applications, but yesterday I stumbled upon one that, for the rest of today at least, comes at no monetary cost. It takes a little extra effort, but I’m willing to bet that once you see what it entails you’ll be willing. You’ll probably also appreciate that Call Control is one of the better call blockers on the market.
The difference between Call Control and other call blocking applications is that it uses the power of crowds to create an airtight black list. If you get an unwanted call from a telemarketer you can report it directly to EveryCall.us, right from your device. The service then updates its list of spam callers, which are automatically blocked. In addition to the community list, you can keep your own personal black and white lists, ensuring that you don’t get any more calls that you don’t want.
As with many applications, Call Control comes in both Pro and Lite versions. The Lite version allows for a small sample of the community list, plus a limit of five numbers for personal black and white lists. However, from now until tonight, April 21, at 11:59 PM PST (though we’re on Daylight Time now), you can register for a free version of Call Control Pro. Here’s how you do that:
- Download Call Control Lite from App World.
- After you install it and play around for a bit, leave a review on App World.
- Email a copy of your review to [email protected], and they’ll send you a Pro license.
You can find the full instructions at EveryCall.us. If, unfortunately, you miss this deadline, you can always grab the Lite version. Or, if you want all of the features, you can get Call Control Pro for $7.99.
