Add contact information from business cards with ProOnGo

A few months ago I touted ProOnGo Expense as an excellent personal finance manager. Not only does it take care of routine budgetary matters, but it also features a receipt readers. Using your camera you can snap a picture of a receipt, and the application would convert it, cutting out the manual entering process. Their new application, Business Card Reader, uses the came concept. All you have to do is snap a picture of a business card and you’ll get the information necessary to create a BlackBerry contact.

The application couldn’t work more simply. Just pull up the application, choose to snap a picture of a business card, and then, using the camera, take it. ProOnGo Business Card Reader takes care of the rest. They take the information from the business card and create a contact sheet from it. This comes to your email in the form of a vCard file. You can read a bit more about vCard files here.

Once you receive the email, all you have to do is open the attached file to view the contact information, and then click the Menu button and select Add to Contacts to finish the process. It’s quite a bit easier than entering in all the information manually.

ProOnGo Business Card Reader essentially comes as a free trial. You can get it here with 10 free business card reads. You have to purchase more reads, but at just $3 for 30 additional, I think it’s a worthy investment.
