BlackBerry Podast app available to Beta Zone members

Well, that was quick. It was just a couple of days ago that we first heard about the BlackBerry podcast app. It seems like a great way to access the BBGeekcast, coming up this afternoon. There was no real word of release date, and while I thought it would come some time in the near future I didn’t exactly expect this. If you’re a member of BlackBerry Beta Zone, you might be able to get your hands on it right now. It’s not available to everyone, but select users will be able to test it and provide feedback.

If you’re not a member of BlackBerry Beta Zone, head to https://www.blackberry.com/beta/ and sign up. You’ll see access to a limited number of applications, though I’m pretty sure everyone can download the official BlackBerry Twitter app. Just head to your eligible programs and see if the podcast app is listed. If so, have fun. And make sure to let me know how it goes, because I do not have access (seriously, how does RIM go about testing this?).

It’s good to see RIM putting out an official application for podcasts. They’re a bit behind other platforms, and podcasts are more in demand than ever. It’s also nice to have a BlackBerry-centric way to distribute BlackBerry-related podcasts. I’m not sure if the BBGeekcast will be listed in the app currently, but you know we’ll work to get it in there for a public release.
