When it comes to grabbing screenshots from your BlackBerry, I’ve always recommended BBScreenShooter. It’s just an excellent application that lets you take a picture of any screen on your BlackBerry. The only drawback is that it’s PC software. This not only locks out Mac users, but it also means you can only use it when your BlackBerry is connected to the desktop. I’m sure there are instances where you want to take a screencap while on the road. We’ve featured software like this in the past, but one of the newest apps in our store, Screen Grab, puts an interesting twist on grabbing screenshots.
Ever since I got my BlackBerry I’ve been using SnapScren to capture the screenshots you see in our daily posts (well, many of them at least). It’s a simple, effective application that you can assign to a convenience key. The only problem I’ve had with the app is that it won’t take certain shots. Oftentimes when I want to take a shot of a menu, the menu will disappear when I launch SnapScreen. That can be quite annoying.
This new application, Screen Grab by JDub, helps solve that issue. It takes a few more steps to operate, but if you’re looking for nuanced screenshots it might be worth your while. You have to launch the application, which sets you up with a few options. You can select the file extension (PNG, BMP, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, WBMP), the file name, and the delay. The delay is the different part of this application.
Once you set the delay, hit take screen shot. You then have that many second to get to the proper screen and set up everything for the screen shot. Again, this is Screen Grab’s advantage. It won’t knock the menu off the screen like SnapScreen, so you can grab really any screen from your BlackBerry.
Also, the application is on sale. You can get Screen Grab for just 99 cents until May 27. It is normally $1.99.
