For those of you who like to hack and crack your phones, there is good news! Members of the XDA Developers forums have reported a successful Bootloader unlock on the AT&T version of the HTC One. According to sources, the same methods used on the International version to root and install ClockWorkMod will also work on the US version.
There were concerns initially that by the time the One officially launched AT&T would have disabled the standard HTC bootloader unlocking tool, but thankfully this was not the case. As is the case with most Bootloader unlock procedures, you can expect your One to be completely wiped to the factory settings, so back up any and all personal files you hold near and dear. Additional items you may miss following the unlock procedure include:
- Flashlight
- Ringtone Trimmer
- Sound Recorder
All of which can be replaced by third-party apps on the Google Play Store if need be. Be advices, if you are attached to those handy, but not always timely OTA updates, you are going to have to learn to live without them because your One will no longer pass the required file integrity checks necessary to receive them.
If you are a true tweaker, you are probably sneering at the fact that you will lose these basic apps and have probably never relied on an OTA update in your life anyway…so go forth and happy hacking!
A WORD OF CAUTION! TalkAndroid can not be held accountable for any damage this unlocker might do to your device. Please err on the side of caution on this one and if you don’t think you are tech savvy enough to do it yourself, go grab the geek down the street to help you out.
