Assigning speed dial keys on your BlackBerry Storm

I sometimes feel like the BlackBerry Storm doesn’t get enough love around these parts. Maybe if RIM would send us one (wink wink, nudge nudge) we’d write more about it, but for the most part we have to rely on friends and family members for most of our Storm content. So, when someone posts a Storm tip, we’ll be quick to point their way. In the past we’ve gone over how to assign a speed dial key on your BlackBerry, as well as reassigning the A, W, and Q speed dial keys. That’s fine and good for the QWERTY models, but what about the Storm? Robb at RIMarkable has the tip.

The biggest difference between the Storm speed dial and that of a QWERTY BlackBerry is the number. While you can assign a speed dial for most (really, all) keys on the QWERTY models, you can only assign eight on the Storm. The number one is reserved for voicemail, so you basically have two through nine for speed dials. That’s a bummer, but whatcha gonna do?

To assign speed dials, first press the Send button to bring up the call screen. Then click Menu, and select Speed Dial Numbers from the Phone Options menu. Highlight the speed dial number you’d like to assign, hit Menu, and select Assign or Edit. You can then choose which contact to assign. Alternatively, you can just hold down the number in the call screen, which brings up a prompt asking you if you’d like to assign the number to a speed dial.

This makes me think it might be a good idea to solicit Storm tips from the crowd. If you have any BlackBerry Storm tips you’d like us to share, hit me up: jpawlikowski at bbgeeks.
