Vernacular sustainable architecture in Vietnam?

Hello everyone,
Thank you for spending your time reading up on this post. I am a third year architecture student at the University of Oregon, US. My subjects of focus are housing projects for low-income families and sustainable architecture (only in the sense of self-sustaining). I am currently doing an architecture studio whose project is incubated (hypothetical of course) in Saigon, roughly around the intersection of Nguyen Du street and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia street. The reason being for me to open this thread is to find out more about how Vietnam has approached to sustainable architecture. Also I’d like to know more about the preservation of the historical city fabric. Has it been paid a lot of attention to? Have all the new buildings recently erected taken in consideration the context and history? If not, why do you think that is? And what are the things that Vietnam needs to do in order to preserve what sets it apart from other countries?
Pictures, Precedent Studies and links are great. Thanks again and I am looking forward to see what you have to say 🙂
