Theme Review Wednesdays: Liquid, Transfixion, Classique Docked

Whenever I prepare for our bi-weekly theme review, I find myself hitting a few sites regularly. We always review Hedone Design themes, and it’s a rarity this week that they’re not included. Another regular stop is Cherri Chiodo’s All Things Berry. When I visited her site recently to check out her new themes, I learned some bad news. Her daughter has been diagnosed with Retroperitoneal Undifferentiated Sarcoma, and has been undergoing chemo and radiation treatment. So, before we dive into the theme reviews this week, I’d like to offer my thoughts and prayers to Cherri, her daughter, and her family. No one deserves to go through this.

Liquid

For all the themes we review on this site, we haven’t hit upon an Elecite theme — at least that I’m aware of. I’m really not sure why. We’ll make up for it this week, though, but putting one of their newest themes front and center. This one is called Liquid, and it’s a perfect introduction to Elecite.

The theme seems pretty basic at first, featuring a bottom dock and Today Preview. The gold, however, lies in the second dock. It lines the top of the screen, and gives you easy access to messages, calendar, call log, profiles (sounds), manage connections, and social network apps. The Today Preview works with the icons up top. The bottom dock features six customizable icons, giving you a total of 14 home screen icons. The custom icons look excellent — perhaps the best custom icons I’ve yet to see from a BlackBerry theme.

You can get the Liquid theme at Elecite’s website for $6.99. It works with OS versions 4.6 and up.

Transfixion

We make a return to BlackBerry Theme Park for this interesting, simple theme. It’s based around the background image, which the author says was given to him by a friend in hopes he could fit it into a theme. I have to say that it looks pretty nice lit up on my Tour, better than the screenshots indicate. I do love the black/blue contrast, so that certainly explains part of it. Plus, there are plenty of features in this theme that I enjoy.

Like Liquid, Transfixion contains a permanent quick launch bar, this one running down the left side of the screen. Contained in this bar are icons for options, clock, music, files, and videos. Highlighting these produces a magnified icon in the middle of the screen. Then there are six customizable icons running along the bottom dock. Calendar and messages contain Today Previews, listing nine entries, a very good number indeed. And then there’s a weather app slot, an increasingly popular feature in BlackBerry themes.

You can get the Transfixion theme for $5.99. It’s available for the Tour now, and should be ready for the Storms, Bolds, and new Curve models soon. As always with BlackBerry Theme Park, you can choose to pay a $19.99 subscription fee to get unlimited themes for life.

Classique Docked

Some people don’t want the same things I do in a BlackBerry theme. I sometimes need to remind myself of that when I overemphasize Today features and multiple home screen icons. After going through two themes loaded with features I love, we’ll conclude this week’s feature with a more minimalistic theme. It’s called Classique Dock, and as you can see from the screenshot, there’s not much happening on the home screen.

Ah, but then there’s the hidden part. Five icons lie dormant at the bottom of the home screen. Even when you pull them up, they’re translucent. If you choose the Today version, scrolling over calendar or messages will bring up your 10 latest items. the theme features a weather app integration — in fact, by default it’s the only thing residing on the home page. Other than the basics, like clock, battery meter, and signal meter. Oh, and the signal meter doubles as a manage connections launch. This, I think, all themes should employ.

You can get the Classique Docked theme, on any BlackBerry OS 4.6 and above, with both Today and non Today features, for just $3.
