There are over a half dozen BlackBerry models spanning multiple carriers, but from what I’ve seen the Tour on Verizon remains one of the more popular choices. Released last July, it’s due for an update in the next month or so. In the meantime Tour users are still waiting for OS 5.0. It seems that every other eligible device has the upgrade. Even Sprint has released a version of 5.0 for its Tour. Verizon, though, has lagged behind. Will it be worth the wait? We’ll find out soon, as Verizon will release an update on Monday night. That’ll be 11:59 p.m., so once you plug your device into Desktop Manager after that you should be prompted to upgrade.
Here’s what Verizon says will be included in the update.
- Camera – Smoother operation in both camera and video applications.
- Calling – Improved Bluetooth functionality for last number dialed, enhanced functionality for Voice Activated Dialing in both French and English, improved missed call log showing missed Call Waiting calls, and upgraded Call Waiting caller ID and call timer.
- Messaging – Improved functionality for reading, sending, forwarding, and deleting SMS messages as well as corrected in-box display when in holster.
- Bluetooth – Improvements in operation when using VZ Navigator
- Push To Talk – Push To Talk capability Software Availability The software upgrade will first be available to customers on the night of 3/29 at 11:59 pm via the following methods: OTASL (Over The Air Software Loading) OTA User Initiated / Verizon Wireless Network Pushed Process (Poke) / Web Based Software / Desktop Manager Software.
Again, the update will come just before midnight on Tuesday morning. I can’t wait to finally upgrade mine.

Verizon to release OS 5.0 for the Tour 9630
