  • MySpace Chief Product Officer Jason Hirschhorn On His Way Out After 9 Months On The Job

MySpace Chief Product Officer Jason Hirschhorn will soon be leaving the company, we’ve heard from multiple sources. Hirschhorn joined MySpace in April 2009 as part of the major executive shakeup that replaced the old guard, including long-time CEO Chris DeWolfe. After current CEO Owen Van Natta was chosen, Hirschhorn and COO Mike Jones were quickly brought on board to fill out the newly vacated roster.

Since joining MySpace, Hirschhorn has gotten a reputation for slashing products that weren’t deemed to be part of MySpace’s core strategy (given how bloated the site was, that wasn’t always a bad thing). But the core product hasn’t really changed all that much, either, which is something that needs to change for MySpace to get back on its feet.

But the real problem may have been a lack of chemistry between Hirschhorn and his fellow executives. CEO Van Natta was supposedly hired by Murdoch directly for the job. Hirschhorn and Jones were hired by Digital chief Jon Miller. Since the whole team was brought in at once, Van Natta didn’t have any say at all in the hiring of his two right hand guys.

Before joining MySpace, Hirschhorn was president of the Sling Media Entertainment group, a founding partner at TripleH Media Advisors, and Chief Digital Officer at MTV.

MySpace refused to comment on this story. An email to Hirschhorn has so far gone unanswered.

Although no one really believes American supplier CTS Corp is to be held responsible for the huge recall Japanese manufacturer Toyota is currently engulfed in, some automakers have already began reviewing their quality control procedures, especially when it comes to outsourced parts.

  • Joe Simpson Developing TV Comedy For Nickelodeon

Joe Simpson — father and manager of Hollywood’s Ashlee and Jessica Simpson, is developing a Nickelodeon comedy loosely based on his life as a psychologist raising two daughters in Texas. The untitled project centers on one of the daughters who begins imitating her father and giving life advice to other kids in her school.

This isn’t Joe’s first tango with television producing; in addition to steering a series of TV projects for his famous daughters, the accused stage dad also contributed to the now-defunct ABC drama Women’s Murder Club.

Felipe Massa admitted, for the first time in years, that leaving Ferrari might actually happen in the future. Entering his 5th consecutive year as a Ferrari-an driver, the Brazilian is well aware of the fact that his deal with the Italian company runs out at the end of 2010 and, while hopeful that he can squeeze another extension from the Maranello officials, admitted that leaving Ferrari is a possibility until the end of his F1 career.

  • Marchionne Slams Scrappage Schemes

An overconfident statement coming from Fiat’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne, surfaced today, after the Italian government said it is considering dumping plans for more eco-incentives. According to Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi the main reason behind what Marchionne had to say about Italian scrappage schemes (you can read his full statement below), may be the fact that Marchionne doesn’t want such a scheme to interfere with its plants of idling or closing some of its facilities.

  • Sony Ericsson Aspen first impressions, pictures

    Click for larger versions

SE-First has managed to nab some of the first high quality live pictures of the Sony Ericsson Aspen, and also managed to give us their first impressions.

Apparently the Greenheart phone is for "consumers or companies who want to make a green choice in their daily work life".

    On the device SE-First says:

So, what’s new in Windows Mobile 6.5.3? In general, the UI has become a bit more finger friendly compared to 6.5, i.e. bigger icons, dropdown entries etc. Sony Ericsson’s custom addition, the SlideView, is already known from the Xperia X2. It provides quick access to messaging, media player, calendar and – as a novelty – Facebook contact information such as comments and posts.

The full featured QWERTY keyboard provides an OK haptic feedback, however the surface of the keys are a little bit too slippery. The device itself feels comfortable in your hands.

In silver and black the smartphone certainly looks a lot better than in its white version, but I cant help but be turned of by the extremely small and low resolution screen.

See many more pictures at SE-First here.

  • Miranda Kerr Joins Campaign To Save Banker David Kiely

Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr has backed a growing campaign to save the job of an Aussie banker caught viewing risque shots of the dimpled-cheeked cutie on live TV, in footage that has become an Internet sensation.

Here’s how our buddies at Complex.com describe the events leading up to the firestorm: “Earlier this week, Australian banker David Kiely was caught perving on Miranda Kerr’s GQ photos on his computer during a televised interview with a fellow analyst. In his defense, Kiely claims that he just happened to open an e-mail containing the photos and that it had been a set-up, citing the message, “turn around now,” at the end. Of course, the video is blasting on YouTube and the shamed bank is currently debating the future of their employee…..”

Australia’s Top Model says she would be happy to sign a petition urging Macquarie Bank not to fire Kiely, who is under internal investigation after the incident this week.

Kiely was shown clicking on semi-naked pictures of Kerr that debuted in the men’s interest mag last month –apparently unaware that a colleague behind him was being interviewed for about interest rates for Australia’s Seven Network.

Video of the gaffe has generated over 2 million hits on YouTube and inspired several Facebook pages supporting the banker, as well as a popular “Save Dave” campaign by London-based business website hereisthecity.com.

“I am told there is a petition to save his job and of course I would sign it,” Miranda told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.

  • Deutsche Telekom considers T-Mobile USA IPO

It’s no big secret that Deutsche Telekom hasn’t been very pleased with the performance of its American wireless arm, T-Mobile USA. In September, we reported that the German telecom giant was considering a merger with Sprint — shortly after T-Mobile UK merged with Orange to create the largest wireless company in the UK.

Now The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Deutsche Telekom is considering an initial public offering for T-Mobile USA — a move that’s meant to help save the struggling fourth-ranked carrier. According to anonymous sources, DT has had talks with a few banks to fund the IPO. The proceeds from the deal would likely go towards expanding T-Mobile’s network in the United States. A final decision from the company on how it intends to move forward, as well as what it would do the extra cash, is expected in the next few months.

T-Mobile was the last US cellular provider to roll out a 3G network, and even Deutsche Telekom has admitted that the company has lost subscribers due to the lack of 3G availability. Even though it got off to a slow start, T-Mobile is working hard in 2010 to roll out what would be the fastest 3G network in the US, featuring 21Mbps HSPA+ technology. In comparison, AT&T plans to bring its 3G network only up to 7Mbps speeds by the end of 2011.

Unlike other US carriers, T-Mobile hasn’t yet announced any 4G network plans.

At this point,  an IPO seems far more likely for T-Mobile, rather than any sort of merger. It would be too costly to merge the carrier’s GSM-based network with Sprint’s CDMA technology to be worthwhile. AT&T, the only other major GSM provider, is an unlikely candidate for a merger — especially considering that T-Mobile’s 3G operates on a different frequency than AT&T’s.

Even with an IPO, it remains to be seen if T-Mobile can compete with the likes of AT&T, which has seen its subscribers grow steadily thanks to the iPhone, and Verizon, whose 3G network is widely regarded as the best in the US. 2010 looks to be a particularly good year for Verizon — given the arrival of the Palm Pre and Pixi, more high-end Android phones (including the current T-Mobile exclusive, the Nexus One), and potentially even the iPhone (if AT&T loses exclusivity).

Whatever Deutsche Telekom decides, it’s going to be an uphill battle for T-Mobile in 2010.

  • F1 to Have New Pit Stop Rules?

As most of you already know by now, one pit stop is mandatory in Formula One. That’s the way it’s always been and, since refueling was permitted back into the series during the early ’90s, 2-pit stop strategies have dominated the championship.

In 2010 however, the FIA has imposed a refueling ban in the series that will no doubt have a great effect over pit stops. First of all, they will only include the tire changes, therefore will last under 3 seconds (as the latest tests from the F1 teams … (read more)
