According to Q4 data from Miller Samuel shown below, median Manhattan apartment prices fell 10% year over year in the fourth quarter, but those for three- and four-bedroom units dropped a shocking 42% and 38% respectively. Yet prices rose ~4% for larger units against Q3.
Great time to blow the bonus on a giant Manhattan apartment?
Three bedroom units in particular seems like a cozy steal at $2.35 million. Assuming you have a job, and it’s paying you a giant bonus.
comparison of popular twitter clients for blackberry; übertwitter, openbreak (formerly known as twitterberry), and tweetgenius. well i am pretty much terrified by 21 pages of configuration in übertwitter, and it only supports photo upload to mypict.me (which features one of the crappiest interfaces on the planet.) and tweetphoto. but übertwitter is probably the best option for the users who ain’t considering paid-application for twitter.
so far, none of them features “reply all” which inserts every user in a particular tweet into a new reply-tweet and automatically omits the main username. i am looking forward for that in the future release.
Halil Yüksel from Mobilelayers.com was tired with all the iPhone-specific applications major websites were getting, and started to fight back by making great-looking Windows Mobile applications for major websites and services in the Netherlands.
So far he has made an application for the train service in the Netherlands, website Nu.nl and also to Tweakers.net, one of the largest gadget sites in the country.
Promising Marketplace will be crawling with his applications, he intends to release dozens of applications over the next few months.

Later this week, the egmCarTech team will be driving down to Detroit for the 2010 North American International Auto Show. One of the production vehicles to debut in Detroit will be the new 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, the latest addition to the CTS lineup.
Let’s get right to it. Power will come from the same supercharged 6.2L V8 that powers the CTS-V sedan. That is good for 556-hp and a peak torque of 551 lb-ft. Mated to either a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual with a dual-disc clutch or a Hydra-Matic 6L90 6-speed automatic with paddle-shift control, the CTS-V Coupe can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Stopping power comes from Brembo brakes, 6-piston calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear.
The 2011 CTS-V Coupe also gets Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control as standard. The system uses shocks controlled by magneto-rheological technology, rather than mechanical valves, to enhance response and assisting in maintaining luxury car driving conditions.
Sales of the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe will start early in the summer. Pricing and other details will be announced closer to launch.
2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe:

DETROIT – Cadillac today announced the 2011 CTS-V Coupe, which debuts at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It combines the new CTS Coupe’s dramatic design with the 556-horsepower (415-kW) supercharged V-8 engine from the CTS-V sedan. The result is a luxury sports coupe aimed at driving enthusiasts.
“The CTS-V Coupe marries our most potent and sophisticated technology with our most dramatic production design,” said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager. “This combination of visual and technical attributes is designed to create a very compelling choice for luxury sports car consumers.”
The CTS-V Coupe begins production this summer. Its suite of technical and performance elements includes Magnetic Ride Control, racing-bred Brembo brakes and an available automatic transmission with paddle-shift control.
The V-Series Coupe includes a unique grille that doubles the car’s air intake volume, an important enabler for its high-performance capabilities. It is also visually identified by a raised center section of the hood that provides clearance for the supercharger, as well as specific front and rear fascias. Like the CTS Coupe, its exhaust is centered inside the rear fascia, but with unique twin outlets. The car rolls on 19-inch cast aluminum wheels, available in either painted or polished finishes, and Michelin Pilot Sport 2 performance tires.
The CTS-V Coupe’s rear track is nearly an inch wider than the CTS-V Sport Sedan, adding to the car’s aggressive stance and enabling an extra measure of handling capability. The current CTS-V Sport Sedan has quickly established itself among the world’s highest performing luxury sedans, becoming the first production four-door on street tires to break the legendary 8-minute barrier at Germany’s famed Nürburgring. The new V-Series Coupe’s sleeker shape and slightly lower mass ensure a similarly high level of performance.
Inside, the 2+2 cabin combines performance and luxury. A new Saffron interior trim color is offered, with contrasting microfiber seat inserts and stitching on the upper trim areas.
Form follows function
The CTS-V Coupe’s design is a clear visual statement of the technical precision and performance intent of the car.
The Coupe has the same wheelbase as the CTS-V Sport Sedan, but its overall height is about two inches (51 mm) lower and its overall length is two inches (51 mm) shorter. The two models share only the instrument panel, console, headlamps, front fenders and grille.
Key design features include:
* Classic hardtop styling, with no conventional B-pillar
* Touch-pad operation for the doors removes the need for conventional door handles * Faster windshield angle (62.3 degrees) and a nearly horizontal backglass enable an aerodynamic profile
* Signature vertical lighting, highlighted with LED light pipes
* Signature center high-mounted stop lamp functions as a rear spoiler * Aerodynamic roof-mounted antenna for OnStar and XM Satellite Radio
Supercharged powertrain
The CTS-V Coupe employs the LSA 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine also found on the CTS-V Sport Sedan. Rated at 556 horsepower (415 kW) and 551 lb.-ft. of torque (747 Nm), it is the most powerful engine offered in Cadillac’s history and propels the CTS-V Coupe from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
The LSA engine features an intercooled Eaton supercharger system, premium aluminum-alloy cylinder heads and numerous details designed to ensure it makes its power as quietly and smoothly as possible. The supercharger, for example, has a unique, four-lobe rotor design that enhances quietness while also optimizing the performance parameters of the engine.
A pair of six-speed transmissions is offered in the CTS-V Coupe: a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual with a dual-disc clutch and a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with paddle-shift control. Performance Algorithm Shifting is part of the 6L90’s programming and provides a performance-oriented shift pattern during sustained high-performance driving. As with many Cadillac models, the driver needs only to slide the shifter into the manual “gate” to put the transmission into that more aggressive mode.
The paddle shift control requires no shift lever movement. Steering wheel thumb controls allow immediate and quick tap up/tap down gear selection.
Magnetic Ride Control
The V-Series reaches elite levels of road-holding performance, but also maintains the poise of a luxury car in “regular” driving conditions. The technical enabler of that dual-mode driving character is Cadillac’s landmark Magnetic Ride Control. It is standard on the CTS-V Coupe and is the world’s fastest-reacting suspension technology. It uses shocks controlled by advanced magneto-rheological technology, rather than mechanical valves, to greatly accelerate response time and precision.
Electronic sensors at all four wheels literally “read the road” every millisecond, making constant adjustments to damping to create virtually instantaneous and extremely precise control of body motions. This is of particular benefit for a high-performance car because it helps keep the car very composed during hard cornering, acceleration, braking and other dynamic maneuvers.
The Magnetic Ride shocks also enable a broader range of damping control to optimize the ride and handling for all driving conditions. In the CTS-V Coupe, an extra measure of control is offered, with two selectable modes (Tour and Sport), enabling the driver to tailor the suspension for grand touring or more spirited performance driving.
Braking and tire systems
CTS-V includes sophisticated braking and tire systems, in partnership with two companies renowned for high-performance technology: Brembo and Michelin. Brembo brakes are at all four corners and include powerful, six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear.
Slotted and vented rotors enable strong initial braking force while optimizing heat resistance and eliminating fade. The brake rotors from Brembo employ a “dual-cast” technology that combines cast iron and aluminum, resulting in excellent performance and weight reduction. CTS-V also includes an electric parking brake, enabling more legroom for the driver, key for high-performance driving.
Michelin partnered with Cadillac engineers to develop its acclaimed Pilot Sport PS2 summer tire for CTS-V and its exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels. The tires support high levels of grip in track conditions, while also affording good performance on the road.
Interior amenities
Recaro performance driving seats are optional in the CTS-V Coupe and provide excellent support for spirited driving. These 14-way adjustable performance seats include pneumatic bolster controls in the seat cushions and backrests.
The CTS-V Coupe also includes an exclusive new Saffron color option for the interior, providing a contrasting color accent carried on the seat inserts, as well as the stitching, which highlights the craftsmanship of the instrument panel, center console, door trim and seats.
The steering wheel, seat inserts and shifter are covered in microfiber, providing the luxurious character of suede without suede’s inherent drawbacks of difficult care and moisture sensitivity. These accents are standard, elegant to the touch and help support high-performance driving.
The car’s integrated center stack is trimmed in Obsidian black material that is also applied to the center console and door trim. Just like every CTS, the V-Series includes a hand-stitched instrument panel, door trim and center console. Leading-edge infotainment features extend to the V-Series. They include a 40-gigabyte hard drive, advanced navigation system with a deployable screen and Bose digital surround audio, as well as factory-installed Bluetooth phone integration, all standard features on the V-Series.
USB 3.0 is just around the corner, with us having reported about more and more compatible devices in the last few months. And now Taiwan-based PC accessory maker VIA has readied the so-called VIA VL810 SuperSpeed Hub Controller, the world’s first USB 3.0 hub controller. It supports data transfer speeds of up to 5Gb/s and features one upstream and four downstream ports.
The controller is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, but data transfer rates are up to ten times slower in that case. The five ports support Hi-Speed (480Mbps), Full-Speed (12Mbps) and Low-Speed (1.5Mbps) data traffic. VIA says the controller is ideal for those users who, for example, need to backup HDDs or quickly move HD video files from one device to the other.
The company plans to demo the controller at the CES later this week.
Toyota expects to boost India sales about 20 percent this year from 55,000 vehicles last year, Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director of the company’s local unit, said today. The carmaker intends to more than triple its market share to more than 10 percent by 2015, he said.
VW, Suzuki
Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, aims to reach about that figure in four years, Jochem Heizman, a member of the company’s management board, reiterated at the show. The company, which is buying a 20 percent stake in Suzuki, will begin selling the Polo in India in March, he said.
Toyota’s low-cost Etios compact will go on sale in India later this year, according to a company statement. The automaker aims to sell 70,000 in the first full-year of production. The model will also be exported, Okamoto said.
Hyundai Motor Co. ranks second in Indian car sales ahead of Tata Motors Ltd., the maker of the Nano, the world’s cheapest car.
Toyota has previously struggled to win market share from Suzuki’s Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. unit, missing a goal announced in 2003 to get 10 percent of the market by this year. Maruti’s nationwide network of dealers may also help it rebuff future challenges, said Jatin Chawla, an analyst at India Infoline Ltd.
“It would be difficult to tackle that factor upfront,” he said. Challengers will likely focus on the 20 biggest cities for the first few years, while Maruti targets rural and semi-urban markets to maintain its market share, he said.
The new compact will be smaller than the Jazz, known as the Fit in Japan, according to the company.
Honda’s passenger car sales in India declined 16 percent to 50,174 units in the year ended March 31, giving the company a 4.1 percent share of the local market. Honda was the fourth- largest carmaker in India, lagging behind Suzuki, Hyundai Motor Co. and Tata Motors Ltd.
Suzuki, which offers seven hatchbacks through its Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. unit, controls 52 percent.
Hey Netgear, did you have a surprise for us at CES? Say the world’s first 4×4 MIMO 802.11n WiFi HD Video bridge? Sorry, but Quantenna just revealed your partnership that promises to deliver Full HD video quality streams across distances of “100 feet or more, regardless of signal interferences and dead zones.” According to the Quantenna press release, anyway. That’s up to 5x the distance of existing wireless HD solutions thanks to Quantenna’s 4×4 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology, adaptive transmit digital beamforming, and wireless channel monitoring and optimizing; a lot of scary sounding jargon that should allow the device to carry up to four streams of full HD video pretty much anywhere in the house with claimed “near-perfect transmission performance.” While we don’t have pics yet you can expect Netgear’s baby to be sporting 4 antennas (like the Quantenna reference design pictured) when it’s announced proper in the next few days.
Iran said on Monday several foreign citizens were
arrested during clashes between opposition supporters and security
forces last month, state television reported.
“Several foreigners are among those who were
arrested on the day of Ashura…they were leading a psychological
war against the system…They entered Iran two days before
Ashura,” Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi told state TV,
without elaborating on the foreigners’ nationality.
In Iran’s bloodiest unrest since the aftermath of the disputed
June 12 presidential election, eight people were killed on December 27
and at least 40 pro-reform figures, including four senior advisers to
opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi, have been arrested since then.
Iranian hardline authorities have repeatedly accused the opposition
leaders of links to “foreign enemies,” warning that they
will not tolerate any more anti-government protests after the fiery
demonstrations during the Shi’ite ritual of Ashura.
How many phones does Garmin-Asus sell on T-Mobile? If you guessed zero, you’d be absolutely correct, so we’re buzzing about this FCC filing that popped up in the last few hours detailing a “PDA Phone” with AWS 3G frequency compliance. To be fair, this could be a device for Canada’s WIND Mobile, too, now that it’s sharing T-Mobile’s spectrum space — but either way, we’ve got to wonder what kind of phone we’re looking at here. It seems a little late in the game to be re-releasing either the nuvifone G60 or M20 with new bands, so we’re hoping this is legitimately new hardware in the mix; if so, it’ll be interesting to see if the nuvifone franchise still has a chance to redeem itself after the G60 became one of the most catastrophically delayed launches in mobile history. Nothing a little Android can’t fix, right?
Hear that? That’s the sound of millions of Yanks celebrating in unison. Why the joviality? Because Philips’ CushionSpeaker is coming to America, of course! The device — which simultaneously serves as a lap-based laptop cushion / stand and an external speaker system — first made waves last September when it debuted in Europe, but now that USers have evidently proven that they need one too, they’re getting exactly what they want. We had a chance to tinker with the device, and largely, we agree with what has already been said. It’s a perfectly fine cushion for using your laptop while kicking back on the sofa, but the bass-less speaker leaves a lot to be desired. It’s set to ship to sofa sitters this April for $79.99, and if you’re interested in the $39.99 to $49.99 Notebook Sleeve, $49.99 Notebook SoundBar and a variety of other peripherals that now have a stateside release in their future, the full details are posted after the break.
It’s the new year, so what better way for a company to prey upon your insecurities than by offering devices that accessorizes your ambition to really meet your fitness goals this time around. Philips knows this, so it’ll be expanding its DirectLife wearable activity monitor to Germany this month and then to the UK a few months later while launching its new Activa personal audio player here at CES. Activa brings along a little trick called TempoMusic; a feature that analyzes your music library to later match songs to your aerobic intensity. That means that Activa can help keep you motivated by shouting out feedback on your progress in addition to words of encouragement while automatically selecting the appropriate music to match the pace of your workout or give you a boost when needed. Later, while cooling down with some cold suds and a delicious slice of warm tobacco pie you can check your progress and caloric burn rate via the bundled PC software. Activa will be available worldwide sometime in April for about $130, suggested.
Iranian media on Sunday reported Tehran will conduct a
large-scale defensive military exercise next month, coinciding with
what government officials now say is a deadline for the West to respond
to its counteroffer to a nuclear-fuel deal.
The commander of Iran’s ground forces, Brig. Gen. Ahmad-Reza
Pourdastan, said the drill will be conducted by Iran’s army, in
conjunction with some units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,
to improve “defensive capabilities,” Press TV, the
English-language, state-run media outlet reported.
The report follows comments by Iran’s foreign minister
Manouchehr Mottaki on Saturday, challenging Western nations to decide
by the end of the month on counterproposals Tehran has floated to an
internationally brokered nuclear-fuel deal. In the counterproposals,
Iran has said it would agree to swap the bulk of its low-enriched
uranium for higher enriched uranium, but in small batches and on
Iranian soil.
Iranian officials also have named Turkey as a possible venue to swap
the fuel. Iran has separately suggested it would be willing to buy
enriched uranium from a third party.
London’s mayor Boris Johnson has a plan for his city, but the good news stops here. If his Transport Strategy goes through, new road charges might appear in the British capital, and the people affected by this measure have only until January 12 to make a point against this measure.
The 354-page document referring to the Mayor’s Transport Strategy includes a section entitled Wider application of road user charging to manage demand which shows the intention to introduce more road ta… (read more)
Cuba’s high priests of the Afro-American Santeria
religion announced a vision of massive social upheaval and internal
conflict in 2010.
“We can reach all we aspire to, but we can also
destroy it all. The possibilities in 2010 are greater than last
year’s. It all rests in our hands,” Lazaro Cuesta,
babalawo, a Santeria priest, said.
The country’s leading 1,000 babalawos predicted global
turmoil, including “coup d’etats,” “sudden
changes in political systems,” “betrayal and
usurpation” among top government officials, as well as falling
farm and livestock production, and the “breakup of
agreements… wars and military interventions.”
Sincere dialogue should open so that respect for “the
decisions of the majority and the opinion of the minorities,” and
“new reforms” in the political, economic and social orders
could forestall disaster.
New technology that Gordon Brown relies on for his
response to the Christmas Day bomb attack has been tested – and
found wanting.
The explosive device smuggled in the clothing of the
Detroit bomb suspect would not have been detected by body-scanners set
to be introduced in British airports, an expert on the technology
warned last night.
The claim severely undermines Gordon Brown’s
focus on hi-tech scanners for airline passengers as part of his review
into airport security after the attempted attack on Flight 253 on
Christmas Day.
The Independent on Sunday has also heard authoritative claims that
officials at the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Home Office
have already tested the scanners and were not persuaded that they would
work comprehensively against terrorist threats to aviation.
A new legislation which came into effect on January 1st, 2010, stipulates that all waste industrial and automotive batteries will have to be recycled in the future at the manufacturer’s expense. Producers will be required to arrange the collection, treatment and recycling of such batteries, free of charge, if requested by business end-users and final holders.
The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 complement the existing Batteries and Accumulators (Placing on the Ma… (read more)
