The 100 Millionth Deviation on DeviantART Is A Gay Sex Story, But I’m Going To Show You This Arctic Unicorn Instead
On deviantART, the site for anyone who thinks they are an artist, member submissions are known as “deviations.” The site’s been around since 2000, attracts 33 million monthly visitors (comScore), and just recently passed its 100 millionth deviation. It is, appropriately enough, a short story about gay sex.
I could quote from it, but it is more of a deviation from good writing than anything else. I might as well just show the “Blizzard” drawing above featuring some sort of black unicorn frolicking in the snow with an arctic fox. How should I put this? There are some creations which are better left in a drawer and maybe shouldn’t be shared with the world. Seriously, would you pay $150 for a print of this drawing?
I’m sure there’s some great art on deviantART among the 100 million submissions of drawings, photos, videos, and stories, but they are hard to find among the 99.9 million pieces of mediocrity which seem to fill up the site. It’s as though every kid from your high school art class who dropped out to draw dragons is on the site, telling the other drop-outs how amazing their art is. Some of it is so bad that it’s given rise to parody blog divineART, whose slogan is, “When art becomes visual pollution!”
But, hell, what do I know? Those 33 million visitors a month are enough to classify the site as mainstream (shhh, don’t tell).

Flixster Users Name Top 2009 Movies: Avatar, Star Trek And The Blind Side
Forget the Academy Awards and the professional movie critics. Flixster users reviewed movies 55 million times in 2009, says the company, and they’ve released the top movies based on those ratings. At the top is Avatar with a 92% like rating (compared to 83% for the critics). Second is Star Trek with 91%, and The Blind Side comes in third with 90%.The year’s lowest-rated movies were Whiteout (35%); Year One (32%); Dragonball Evolution (30%); Streetfighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (30%); and Transylmania (25%). I’d add Transformers 2 to that list of terrible movies, which is the top grossing film so far this year.

It’s true: there’s nothing particularly extraordinary about LG’s newest external hard drive, but it’s the design here that has managed to catch our eyes. Available in black or white and with 1TB, 1.5TB or 2TB of storage within, these stylish 3.5-inch USB drives are slated to ship next month in South Korea. There’s nary a mention of a stateside release nor of any USB 3.0 editions, but we’re sure that’ll come in due time. Patience leads to great things, or so we hear.

Letterman Extortionist Uses Tiger Woods Defense
It’s the old Tiger Defense: The TV producer accused of shaking down David Letterman about his affairs with Late Show employees is drawing on the Tiger Woods sex scandal as part of his defense.
In court papers filed Tuesday in Manhattan, an attorney for former 48 Hours producer Robert “Joe” Halderman cites published reports that Woods paid an alleged mistress to remain silent.
Halderman’s lawyer said his client simply had valuable information and wanted to get paid for it in the same manner that several women involved in the Woods sex scandal have been.“Uchitel, Allred and (wife Elin)Nordegrin are being prosecuted because they acted in accordance with a set of basic commercial realities; their behavior was capitalist, not criminal,” Halderman’s legal team says in the court documents.
Prosecutors accuse Halderman, 52, of trying to shake down the married late night comic for $2 million to keep embarrassing info about the late night comic’s personal life private. The producer was previously romantically-linked to one of Letterman’s former mistresses. Halderman’s defense lawyer claims his client was simply shopping a screenplay.
If convicted, Halderman faces 15 years in jail.
