  • College Board Basis: SAT Scores

After finishing highschool, several examinations have to be passed so as to move on from post secondary education to the college education.
In the United States, one of the most important consideration as to whether the admission to a certain college or university of choice is possible is the SAT score. Most of the colleges require or recommend one or more of these tests for admission or placement purposes.
The aptitude test may be easy or hard to a person depending on the preparation done.
It is important to know what to review and focus on and be familiar with the test contents. There are only two major sets of exams in SAT. First is the SAT Reasoning test, more of the IQ side and second is the SAT Subject Tests which is more on the knowledge portion. It will just take a student approximately three hours and forty five minutes to complete the exam. Most of the questions, just like any other entrance tests, are in multiple choice form, although in SAT, in addition to the numbered questions, there is a twenty five minute essay writing component. This will be a form of evaluation of the student’s ability in critical reading, in math and skills in writing.
The SAT Subject Tests is shorter and is taken for just one hour. Also in multiple choice form, this evaluates the level of knowledge on specific subjects and the application portion of the knowledge to practical phenomenon.

On 21st of April Bret was hospitalized because of brain hemorrhage. Talking about this Bret said, he had never been shot but it felt like a small handgun went off in the back of his head. He never had a headache like that in his entire life, it was like 10 times more of migraine he said.

He told Oprah, he did not want his daughters or family to see him lying on the floor unconscious or anything worse. His girlfriend Kristi took him to the hospital but he did not want to go in. He just sat outside holding his head and he said just let him sit there. When the doctor said, it is not a good news and you probably wan to say goodbye to your daughters, he did not wanted to go just like that and he kept saying to his girlfriend to tell the girls that he loves them.

  • Pakistan Blocks YouTube and Facebook

Officials of Pakistan Telecommunications Authority stated thay they have ordered operators to block YouTube due to “growing sacrilegious content”.  They stated that they reached the decision this Thursday after all “possible avenues were used within its jurisdiction, including using regular channels available on the Facebook and YouTube to launch protest, to avoid appearances of derogatory material available on their web sites.” Access to Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, and Flickr, a photosharing site, were restricted starting Thursday.

Facebook was blocked temporarily in a row over a competition which involved caricatures of the prophet Muhammad. It was blocked a day before the “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” which was scheduled by a Facebook group bearing the same name.  According to Islam, these are blasphemous acts. There had been protests in several Pakistani cities caused by the Facebook competition. Khoram Ali Mehran of the telecommunication authority said, “Obviously (the blocking of Facebook ) is related to the objectionable material that was placed on Facebook. That is why it is blocked. We have blocked it for an indefinite time. We are just following the government’s instructions and the ruling of the Lahore High Court. If the government decides to unblock it, then that’s what we will do.”  Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said “Islam discourages any visual representations of the prophets of GodJesus, Moses, Mohammed, anybody — because we believe it can lead to a form of idol worship. The majority of Muslims worldwide object to any representation of a prophet of God.”

A series of cartoons of Mohammed in a Danish Newspaper published in 2005 caused many riots around the world and now there are at least two European cartoonists who live under police protection after the publication of their drawings of the Muslim prophet. Mimi Sulpovar, the one who started the Facebook group,(claimed to have gained the idea form a bleeped out episode of “South Park”)said “This extends beyond being able to draw. If it’s offensive to you, that’s fine, but I don’t feel it’s right to impose your belief on others through intimidation. She also stated that the decision to block Facebook was “ridiculous.” Sulpovar’s group and a similar one had attracted about 7,000 fans whereas the Groups opposing the idea gained 68,000 fans.

  • Entertainment Industry Gets Politicians To Advertise File Sharing Sites

Just a few weeks ago, the USTR put out its infamous Special 301 report that tries to shame countries that don’t respect US intellectual property laws, but is put together using the rather scientific method of “what countries are the entertainment and pharmaceutical industries complaining about now?” to generate the list. Around the world — and even in the US gov’t — the list is mostly seen as a joke. No one takes it seriously.

But, apparently one ridiculous list isn’t enough. The RIAA and MPAA have convinced a group of US elected officials, who have dubbed themselves the “International Anti-Piracy Caucus” to put out a list of file sharing websites that it hates… and with it, an attempt to shame the companies where those websites are hosted. The timing on this is amusing, because, of course, just last week, you would have needed to put the US on the list, as LimeWire would have likely been seen as just as widely used for unauthorized file sharing as some of those sites.

But the larger point is that this list is effectively advertising these five sites as the best place to go to get unauthorized content:

    China’s Baidu, Canada’s IsoHunt, Ukraine’s Mp3fiesta, Germany’s RapidShare, Luxembourg’s RMX4U.com, and Sweden’s The Pirate Bay.

You would think that, by now, the RIAA and MPAA would have recognized that every single time they’ve targeted a particular service for file sharing, the end result is to get that site significantly more publicity, so that its userbase increases rapidly. It happened when they sued Napster. It happened when they sued Grokster. It happened when they got the police to raid The Pirate Bay. It happened when they filed the lawsuit against IsoHunt. Putting out this list basically just pointed a bunch of people at these particular services as a good place to go to get access to content. Nice work by the caucus, who is made up of Reps. Adam Schiff and Bob Goodlatte along with Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse and Orrin Hatch.

And, of course, the RIAA put out a statement supporting this free advertising for those sites. Honestly, people keep telling me that the RIAA really knows what it’s doing, but how can they possibly think that this is a good idea?

As a parallel, reader Hephaestus points out this historical bit:

“From 1559 to 1966 the catholic church had a list of prohibited books aptly named the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. One historical note about this list is that a very large number of the books on this list had an increase in sales and reading when they were placed on the list. The International Anti-Piracy Caucus seems to have not learned the simple historical lesson, To list or expose inappropriate subject matter shines a light on it and exposes it to a larger audience. This will undoubtedly lead to more people visiting this “list of notorious sites” quite the opposite of what they seem to be aiming for.

Nice work, RIAA and MPAA. You just boosted traffic to those sites.

The man at the eye of the financial storm that has engulfed the euro has learnt to be patient after 20 years confined to a wheelchair. But Wolfgang Schaeuble, Germany’s finance minister, is also a man in a hurry.

He wants urgently to rewrite the rulebook of the euro zone to prevent any such crisis happening again, and at the same time to revive the momentum of international negotiations on tougher regulation of financial markets. He has returned to the idea of an international financial transaction tax, to make financial institutions share in the costs of the crisis, even if it can be agreed only inside the European Union.

He admits that the greatest problem affecting the markets is one of trust in the ability of the EU, and especially the 16 members of the common currency area at its heart, to bring their debt and deficits under control as they have promised. “That is the task we must perform,” he tells the Financial Times aboard his Luftwaffe Challenger jet bound for Berlin. “But that doesn’t alter the fact that financial market regulation is also necessary.

“I’m convinced the markets are really out of control. That is why we need really effective regulation, in the sense of creating a properly functioning market mechanism.”

    Cyclone Laila hits Southeast India

The cyclone Laila Landfall started on the coast of the southeastern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and went out to sea, after leaving a trail of destruction in several towns in the area.

According to the Service Indo-Asian News (IANS), the tropical storm entered the mainland in the afternoon of Thursday in the vicinity of Bapatla, Guntur district.

Laila, the first hurricane that formed this year in the Bay of Bengal, was accompanied by winds of 125 kilometers per hour and heavy rain.

“We are assessing the damage caused by the storm in coastal Andhra,” said a state government official who was quoted by IANS.

According to the report of the Indian agency, Laila went back into the sea after a short journey by land, now continues towards Balasore in Orissa state, although is a little weaker.

Strong winds and rain since yesterday affecting the catchment area of the storm have caused serious damage to crops and infrastructure, while reportedly had 14 victims.

The Indian defense ministry said in a statement it had mobilized nearly one hundred troops, including several doctors, and four helicopters to help the victims.

Around 50 000 people living in flood-prone areas were evacuated before the arrival of the hurricane, and thousands more moved to safety by their own means.

“We have taken all necessary precautionary steps to reduce human and material losses. The official machinery is prepared for any eventuality,” said local mayor, K. Rosaiah, told reporters in the state capital of Hyderabad.

In May last year, the storm Aila ended 169 lives and left more than seven million victims in its passage through India and Bangladesh.

Ford GTX1 Prototype – Click above for image gallery

The Ford GTX1 Prototype – as in, the car claimed to be the first GTX1 built – in its blemish-free debut color, Valencia Orange with Tungsten stripes, is being offered for sale on eBay. This car was to become a limited-run evolution of the Ford GT built by the Gennadi Design Group, the same folks who built the prototype. Gennadi planned to build 600: one hundred SEMA show cars, five hundred customer cars. That didn’t happen, and only 100 ever made it to the road.

According to the seller, this very first GTX1 was created from the second Ford GT built in 2005, sold to Gennadi, who built it, and Gennadi sold it to its current owner in Atlanta. Recent dyno results paint a picture with 626 horsepower and 585 foot-pounds of torque at the rear wheels, which should keep you in the game even five years on.

At the time of writing, there are no takers on the opening bid stands at $300,000. If your well heeled fancy is being tickled, though, you can save yourself some time and click on the Buy It Now price of $525,000. Politico
    Thursday, May 20, 2010

For any politician with the usual instincts for self-protection, the lessons of Tuesday’s primaries could not be more clear: This could happen to you.

Arlen Specter lost in Pennsylvania even though the party-switching Democrat was recruited and backed by a sitting president. Rand Paul won in Kentucky even though the Republican was regarded as an eccentric renegade by that state’s political establishment.

The 2010 electorate has swallowed an emetic — disgorging in a series of retching convulsions officeholders in both parties who seem to embody conventional Washington politics.

    (ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)

Activists seize control of politics 150410banner1

The anti-establishment, anti-incumbent fevers on display Tuesday are not new. The ideologically charged, grass-roots activists flexing their muscle in this week’s primary showdowns are the same breed as primary voters who four years ago stripped the Democratic nomination away from Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who later won as an independent.

What’s now clear, in a way that wasn’t before, is that these results reflect a genuine national phenomenon, not simply isolated spasms in response to single issues or local circumstances.

This is a stark and potentially durable change in politics. The old structures that protected incumbent power are weakening. New structures, from partisan news outlets to online social networks, are giving anti-establishment politicians access to two essential elements of effective campaigns: publicity and financial support.

  • Sony’s Upcoming TV Has An Intel Atom CE4100 Processor And Runs Google Chrome, Flash 10.1

Sony is definitely set to debut a new television during the Google I/O conference, according to our most trusted sources. This will be the most advanced TV ever released by Sony to date, and was built in collaboration with Google and Intel as previously reported. The TV will be based on the current monolithic design influenced Sony BRAVIA NX800 (shown above), and will most likely come in 46″ and 52″ screen sizes – although we would not be surprised if it only came in one size.

The most interesting aspect of the television will be the Intel Atom processor inside; we’re nearly certain that it will have the 45nm-based Intel Atom 1.2GHz CE4100 series processor (PDF). What are the capabilities of this processor?

    More than one would think.

The CE4100 has full MPEG-4/H.264 support, Flash 10.1 support, 3D graphics capability, high-end audio and can also capture and decode uncompressed 1080p video. The chip also features an integrated NAND controller, along with support for DDR2 and DDR3 memory. The TV will also run the Google Chrome internet browser, and have the full version of Flash 10.1. However, the real power play is that the TV will most likely support the upcoming Chrome Web Store, as well. This could open up the opportunity for the TV to run thousands of applications later this year. We were not able to confirm if the TV will have built-in flash/hdd storage.

Other specifications of the TV include full HD 1080p playback (of course), built-in Wi-Fi, 4 HDMI connections, USB, Motionflow 240Hz refresh rate, Edge LED lighting, BRAVIA Engine 3, BRAVIA Internet Video/Widgets, and is DLNA Certified.

Vamos acompanhar maiores detalhes.

  • South Korea Accused North Korea for Firing Torpedo that Killed 46

South Korea blamed North Korea on Thursday of firing a torpedo that sank a naval warship in March, killing 46 South Korean sailors in the country’s worst military tragedy since the Korean War.

The international report found a North Korean submarine’s torpedo sank the South Korean navy ship, causing the deaths of 6 sailors. According to investigators, evidence proves North Korea fired the torpedo that caused a massive underwater blast that tore the Cheonan naval ship into two on March 26.

The US administration called the sinking as an “act of aggression” that challenged peace and violates international law and the truce signed in 1953.

China, known as an ally of North Korea, urged restraint and did not criticize the North. On the other hand, Britain, Australia and Japan also expressed anger at North Korea.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak promised to take “stern action”, following the release of long-awaited results from a international investigation about the incident.

North Korea reacted promptly and insisted that the results are fabricated. They warned that any recrimination would trigger war against South Korea.
