Foi anunciado na última segunda-feira (22) que a General Motors fará um investimento de R$ 1.4 bilhão em suas unidades de Mogi das Cruzes e São Caetano do Sul, em São Paulo. Isso tudo faz parte do plano de investimento que a companhia já havia planejado entre o período de 2008 a 2012 que chegará a um total de R$ 5 bilhões.

Parte do investimento será direcionado para a modernização e adequação da unidade de São Caetano do Sul, para o início da produção dos “dois novos carros baseados nas novas arquiteturas globais da empresa”, e parte da verba também será destinada para um aumento em 30% da capacidade produtiva da unidade do ABC Paulista. O presidente da GM do Brasil e Mercosul, Jaime Ardila, diz o seguinte:

“Esperamos criar um número considerável de postos de trabalho em São Caetano com o investimento, só que ainda não é possível informar a quantidade exata pois dependerá da demanda”.

Também foi revelado que os novos carros que serão feitos por aqui não possuem nenhuma ligação com a família Viva (Agile), ou o Projeto Onix, que substitui o Celta e Prisma, produzidos em Gravataí, RS. Os dois novos produtos terão cerca de 50 mil unidades produzidas ao ano cada, e serão lanaçdos no segundo semestre de 2011, segundo Ardila.

Além dos quatro lançamentos dos produtos inéditos para este ano, a GM também lançará cinco novos carros em 2011 e mais seis em 2012, quando sua linha estiver totalmente renovada. Vamos aguardar por maiores novidades!

Today ends week 3 of My Power 90 Commitment…Two months and a week to go…

With most of the Beachbody products, you have to make a 6-day-a-week commitment. That is the thing I am having the most trouble with. 5 days is no problem, but that weekend day is hard to fit in with everything else going on…and since they stress it so much I’m wondering if it is something to do with resetting your metabolism -or is it just part of reaching the 90 day goal? I have also decided that 30 minute workouts are much more realistic –for those that agree, Tony Horton has a Power Half Hour Series too.

Fiat ha anunciado de forma oficial que será el distribuidor exclusivo de la marca Chrysler en Europa. La marca italiana será la encargada de la red de distribución de piezas de recambio y servicios en general.

Hasta la fecha, Daimler era la encarga de prestar estos servicios pero Chrysler ha decidido cambiar de socio. Este cambio se hará efectivo apartir del próximo día 21 de Abril. Cabe destacar que Chrysler tiene empresas en Alemania, Italia, Reino Unido, Francia, España, Austria, Bélgica, Países Bajos, Polonia, Suecia y Suiza respectivamente. Los empleados de dichas empresas (un total de 400) pasarán progesivamente a formar parte de la compañía italiana.

Por último y como aporte, cabe mencionar que Chrysler redujo su cuota de mercado en Europa durante el pasado año y este movimiento podría significar el aumentar su posición en el viejo continente.

Σοκ και δέος! Ξεπουλάνε σαν φρέσκο ψωμί τα αυτοκίνητα που κοστίζουν από 80.000 ευρώ και πάνω! Ξέφρενο πάρτι προφανώς «κατάμαυρου χρήματος» σε όλα τα επίπεδα. Αντιπρόσωποι και εισαγωγείς αυτοκινήτων δεν προλαβαίνουν να πουλάνε «Porsche», Maseratti, Hummer, Mercedes, BMW, Audi !!!

Ειδικότερα μέσα στις τελευταίες 15 μέρες πουλήθηκαν 281 Audi, 229 Mercedes, 194 BMW, 74 Volvo, 52 Chrysler, 24 Lexus, 18 Porsche, 8 Saab, 2 Bentley, 1 Aston Martin, 1 Hummer και 1 Jaguar. Μόνο το πρώτο 15νθήμερο του Μαρτίου καταγράφουν αύξηση 54,8% σε σχέση με το αντίστοιχο διάστημα πέρσι ενώ αν συγκριθούν με τα αντίστοιχα του 2008 τότε η αγορά παρουσιάζει πτώση 5,1%. Ειδικότερα στο πρώτο 15νθήμερο του Μαρτίου ταξινομήθηκαν 8.857 αυτοκίνητα έναντι 5.722 οχημάτων το αντίστοιχο διάστημα του 2009 και 9.332 αυτοκινήτων το 2008. Την ίδια ώρα μεγάλη αντιπροσωπεία – δεν θα πούμε το όνομα της για ευνόητους λόγους – ετοιμάζεται να…βαρέσει κανόνι! Oι εισαγωγικές εταιρείες που βρέθηκαν στις πρώτες πέντε θέσεις αφορούν στην Toyota η οποία πούλησε 1.319 αυτοκίνητα και ακολουθούν η VW με 1.176, η Opel με 711, η Suzuki με 518 και η Skoda με 501 ταξινομήσεις.

Ωστόσο το εντυπωσιακό στοιχείο στις πωλήσεις αυτοκινήτων αφορά στην αύξηση που παρουσιάζουν σχεδόν όλες οι εισαγωγικές εταιρείες σε σχέση με το αντίστοιχο 15νθήμερο του 2009. Αναλυτικότερα οι με την υψηλότερη αύξηση ήταν η Land Rover με 150%, η BMW με 136,6%, η Toyota με 124%, η Volvo με 117,6% και η Citroen με 115,3%.

Αντίστοιχα οι 5 εισαγωγικές εταιρείες με την υψηλότερη πτώση ήταν η Ford με 39,3%, η Subaru με 38,5%, η Saab με 33,3%, η Mazda με 19,3% και η Honda με 10,9%.

Ένα ακόμη εντυπωσιακό στοιχείο των πωλήσεων ΙΧ στο πρώτο 15νθήμερο του Μαρτίου αφορά στις ταξινομήσεις πολυτελών αυτοκινήτων. Ειδικότερα πουλήθηκαν 281 Audi, 229 Mercedes, 194 BMW, 74 Volvo, 52 Chrysler, 24 Lexus, 18 Porsche, 8 Saab, 2 Bentley, 1 Aston Martin, 1 Hummer και 1 Jaguar.

Σύμφωνα με στελέχη της αγοράς αυτοκινήτου, η απότομη αλλαγή του δείκτη των πωλήσεων οφείλεται στην πρόωρη φημολογία περί αύξησης του ΦΠΑ κατά 2 ποσοστιαίες μονάδες αλλά και την επιβολή φόρου πολυτελείας στα αυτοκίνητα με εργοστασιακή αξία άνω των 17.000 ευρώ με αποτέλεσμα εισαγωγείς και οι «έχοντες» οικονομική άνεση να σπεύσουν να ταξινομήσουν αυτοκίνητα με μειωμένο ΦΠΑ και χωρίς να καταβάλουν το φόρο πολυτελείας.

Σύγκριση με το 2008

Η σύγκριση των πωλήσεων ΙΧ του πρώτου 15νθημέρου του Μαρτίου του 2010 με τα αντίστοιχα του 2008 κρίνεται απαραίτητη καθώς εκείνη τη χρονιά είχε αρχίσει η ελεύθερη πτώση που κατάγραφε η αγορά εξαιτίας της οικονομικής κρίσης. Αν λοιπόν συγκρίνει κανείς τις πωλήσεις ΙΧ της συγκεκριμένης περιόδου μεταξύ 2010 και 2008 θα διαπιστώσει πως 24 από τις 35 εισαγωγικές εταιρείες παρουσιάζουν πτώση στις πωλήσεις τους από 2,6 έως και 100%.

I hope many of you will agree that sometimes it’s really good idea to have some small amount of RAM mounted as a filesystem. It may be necessary when running some bash or perl script that handles, say, thousands of small files so it’s much more effective not to waste computer resources on reading/writing data on hard disk but keep those files directly in memory. This idea is known as Virtual RAM Drive or ramdisk and can be setup in Ubuntu or almost any other Linux distribution using the following commands under root (to become root in Ubuntu use "sudo -s“):

# mkdir /tmp/ramdisk; chmod 777 /tmp/ramdisk
# mount -t tmpfs -o size=256M tmpfs /tmp/ramdisk/

where 256M is amount of RAM you wish to allocate for ramdisk. It’s clear that this value should be less than amount of free memory (use “free -m“). BTW, if you specify too many MBs for ramdisk Linux will try to allocate it from RAM and then from swap so resulting performance would be very poor.

Segundo a revista Playboy que todos conhecem (de vários sentidos), o Porsche Panamera Turbo foi eleito o “Carro do Ano 2009″, sendo que não é a primeira vez que a marca recebe esse prêmio da conceituada revista. Em 2006 o Cayman foi eleito também.

No ano de 2007 a BMW Z4 M foi eleita e em 2008 o Audi R8 levou o prêmio. O critério de avaliação da Playboy é o “sex appeal” das corridas desses carros, e não são levados em conta informações técnicas dos modelos. Como é o caso do Panamera, suas outras versões não são considerados “Carro do Ano” para eles.

A revista também elegeu o carro do ano de cada categoria, entre elas a Ferrari Califórnia foi escolhida como o melhor conversível, e o Mercedes E 63 AMG foi o melhor sedan esportivo. Também o Nissan 370Z foi o melhor dos coupé, e na categoria de carro versátil, a vencedora foi a BMW Série 5 GT.

Engineers from General Motors’ Dept. 180 are back this week to explain another crucial test they conducted to make sure buyers of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox are as comfortable as possible.

If the folks at Motor Trend are to be believed, the Cadillac XTS large luxury sedan has been given the thumbs up for approval and the production model should arrive sometime in 2012. The report says that designers and engineers are working hard to keep the production model virtually unchanged from the Cadillac XTS Platinum concept, inside and out.

Also, its is said that as the XTS sedan was being approved for production, GM was pulling the plug on the production Cadillac Converj project. Why? Because GM was unable to make a business case for an expensive stand-alone model (or something along those lines).

Instead, GM figured there will be more money and green image to add by building a plug-in version of the XTS. The plug-in version of the XTS will go head-to-head with the BMW ActiveHybrid 7, Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid (and the upcoming plug-in version) and the Audi A8 hybrid. Power will come from a 3.6L V6 gasoline mated to a plug-in hybrid system originally developed for the Saturn Vue.

The Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept itself was powered by a 3.6L V6 direct-injected gasoline engine mated to a plug-in hybrid system. Working together, the system makes a total output of 350-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

mrharrysan sends over the news of musician John Wood who is experimenting with giving away free music, while setting up a subscription to support him, as he creates a new album every month. It’s not just a new album, but a pretty cool website called Learning Music Monthly which includes some cool artwork as well (and, hey, the music’s pretty good too).

Wood isn’t yet making a living from this effort (though, I imagine an Associated Press article won’t hurt), but it’s cool to see another artist build on some of the ideas we’ve seen from others — like Jonathan Coulton’s song-a-week project, or Olafur Arnalds song-a-day for a week project — and then build a subscription offer on top of it, similar to what Matthew Ebel has done with his subscription offering. Basically, what we’re seeing is a lot of very creative people experimenting — not by all doing the same thing, but by trying different things, sometimes inspired by others, sometimes arrived at independently, but all doing something cool.

In many ways, all of this business model experimentation is similar to the kind of experimentation these musicians do in the music itself. That is, they take ideas they have themselves, combine it with ideas inspired from others, and come out with something wholly unique and creative, which best matches with their own community. It’s improvisational business modeling.

Quem aqui se lembra dos desenho futurista “Os Jetsons”? E daqueles carros que voavam com um visual de chamar a atenção? Pois bem, ao que parece, a GM está planejando o seu “carro para o futuro” que pode ocupar espaço em um cubículo, se necessário. Falamos a seguir do novo conceito EN-V.

Em parceria com a empresa chinesa SAIC, o carro elétrico será apresentado na Expo Xangai, evento que começará no dia 1 de maio e que tem duração de seis meses. O PT-V é uma das primeiras idéias futuristas da GM para um mundo ecologicamente melhor. E a concorrência também não está deixando barato, pois a Daimler também já possui o seu Smart no mercado.

Com duas rodas e dois lugares, o EN-V se parece um “aspirador de pó” em maior escala, com um motor a gasolina e a vantagem de caber cinco unidades do pequenino em uma única vaga de estacionamento de um carro comum!

Segundo a GM, no ano de 2040 haverão 1,2 bilhão de veículos na Terra e 60% da humanidade estará vivendo em cidades. Atualmente, países como a China estão sofrendo com o uso de carros convencionais, estradas congestionadas e falta de vagas para estacionamento. Isos também seria uma boa idéia para a cidade de São Paulo e Nova York, não acham?

Yahoo Messenger, the popular instant messaging client from Yahoo, has just gotten a small update. Yahoo Messenger 10.0.0.1258 is a minor release, but an important one, as it plugs several security issues with the IM software. The update comes just a few weeks after a previous one, which fixed several issues with the touted video-chat feature.

I was lucky enough to win a HTC Desire in a competition with T-Mobile. That’s right, I won it. I nearly didn’t as the competition rules stated that when T-Mobile rang me I had half an hour in which to respond. They rang twice, I ignored them twice. Luckily I picked my voice mail up and gave them a call. This was on Monday, I had the phone the following day. As part of the competition I had to agree to do a short video review of the phone. Fortunately I had done one or two video reviews before so this wasn’t a problem.

My first thoughts of the phone? It’s quick, sexy and a sure winner. I have noticed one or two oddities about my particular phone:

• No speech to text
• No Android keyboard (just HTC’s Touch version)
• No Voice search

This may be because T-Mobile have customized the ROM or that my phone is a pre-release version and the retail version may rectify these things.

The plus points are:

• Pinch to zoom in browser, images and maps
• Live Wallpapers
• Quick and smooth to use
• Face recognition in camera
• Loads of other things……

This is my review for T-Mobile but I will do a more comprehensive one soon. Enjoy.

UPDATE: T-Mobile contacted me to say that the build I am using is different to the final build so some of the issues here should be rectified with the retail version.

We’ve been pretty skeptical of the plans by the big cable companies to create “TV Everywhere,” a system to try to reduce churn by offering users the ability to access TV shows online that match their cable subscriptions. The problem, of course, is that the cable companies aren’t looking at this as a way to embrace the future, but more as a way to make the internet act more like cable. This is a recipe for failure. Mark Glaser, over at PBS MediaShift, digs in to explain the many reasons why TV Everywhere is likely to fail, and they’re all focused around a simple issue: the whole concept is based on limiting consumer options, rather than increasing them. The TV Everywhere supporters shoot back that they are increasing options by giving people access to their TV channels online, but that’s only under very restrictive conditions that are more designed to keep you from cutting the cord from the cable company — a relationship many customers are fed up with and would love to ditch. It’s a simple message that so many companies have trouble understanding these days: you don’t succeed by limiting customers and taking away value.
