  • USB uEye® XS

With the release of the new uEye XS model, IDS Imaging Development Systems proves the old saying that the best things come in small packages. With less than one cubic inch, this USB 2.0 camera is packed with a full set of smart features, from face tracking to image stabilization.

The ultra-compact 22 x 24 x 24 mm camera features an 8-megapixel sensor and comes with built-in Auto Focus and a DSP that provides powerful functionality that until now was only available in consumer market cameras. The USB uEye XS is the first camera that integrates all of this functionality into a compact USB industrial camera that comes with a complete SDK.

The face tracking feature can detect and track up to four different faces in a real-time image acquisition mode while returning even the angle it is detecting for each face. The electronic stabilization function helps prevent blurred images caused by camera movement and vibration. The uEye XS also comes with automatic image controls such as Auto Exposure and Auto White Balance that allows the user to achieve optimum image quality under varying lighting conditions. Two new image acquisition modes extend the range of applications: In Night mode, up to five frames are added up in order to minimize noise; in Series mode, the camera captures multiple frames in quick succession. This delivers high frame sequence rates even when multiple cameras are used via USB.

The Auto Focus system has a viewing angle of 53° and a minimum focusing distance of 100 mm. Auto Focus is also tracked even during live image acquisition at a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a 15 fps frame rate. The frames can be transferred uncompressed or in MJPEG format. All single frames are transferred to the PC at full 8-megapixel resolution.

The USB uEye XS supports the latest version 3.50 of the uEye software package. This release also provides drivers for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, including Windows 7, Vista and XP. Besides many ready-to-run demo programs with source code in C++, C# and VB, the software package features interfaces for GenICam, ActiveX, Direct3D and popular image processing libraries such as CVB, HALCON, LabView and Vision Pro. • EQUIPPED TO SUPPORT GLOBAL MINING & TUNNELLING OPERATIONS

    October 19th, 2009

MacLean Engineering enhances its Ground Support product offerings with the addition of a new Small Section Bolter and line of Shotcrete Vehicles.

MacLean Engineering has long been known in the global mining industry as a leader in the Ground Support field of mechanical rock bolting technology. Since its beginnings in 1973, MacLean has produced over 280 Scissor Bolters. Expanding on its expertise in Ground Support, MacLean Engineering introduces a new Small Section Bolter (the MacLean MEM-SSB Small Section Bolter) and a line of Shotcrete Vehicles, which includes the SS-3 Shotcrete Sprayer and the TM-3 Transmixer.

“MacLean’s mission is to satisfy our customers’ needs through the design, manufacture and support of the safest and highest quality mobile equipment solutions possible for the underground hard-rock mining industry. With the introduction of the Small Section Bolter, Shotcrete Sprayer and Transmixer, we are now able to offer our customers a complete solution to Ground Support,” says Alicia Woods, Sales Director at MacLean Engineering.

The MacLean MEM-SSB Small Section Bolter is the first of its kind in the mining industry. Its unique lift-arm design equips this platform-based bolter with superior leveling capabilities offering increased stabilization and operator safety. The bolting mast remains on the platform, as on the standard-size Series 900 Scissor Bolter, giving the operator exceptional screen handling and scaling capabilities. This unique lift-arm design and platform make the MEM-SSB a much more productive unit as compared to other boom-based bolters. Designed for a minimum working heading of 10′ x 10′ (3m x 3m) makes the MEM-SSB ideal for mines with smaller drift openings and for those wanting to reduce the amount of waste they mine.

Complementing MacLean’s Ground Support rock bolting equipment is its new line of Shotcrete vehicles. Advancements in shotcrete equipment technology, logistics and materials make shotcrete an ever-growing trend in mining today. The TM-3 Transmixer and SS-3 Shotcrete Sprayer allow mines to develop underground areas and tunneling projects quickly and safely using highly flexible and durable ground support materials.

The MacLean SS-3 Shotcrete Sprayer (see image) optimizes the latest developments in wet shotcrete materials, additives and spraying processes. The unit accommodates shotcrete composite up to and including 5/8” aggregates, reinforcing fibers and accelerator curing agents and is capable of a spray rate of up to 20 cubic yards per hour (15 m3/hr). The first MacLean SS-3 was delivered to Canada’s largest operating Gold mine, Agnico-Eagle’s LaRonde Mine in Quebec, this October. The SS-3 will join a fleet of MacLean equipment consisting of Boom Trucks, Secondary Breakers, a Scissor Lift and eleven Series 900 Scissor Bolters.

The MacLean TM-3 Transmixer is capable of a payload of up to 7.8 cubic yards (6.0 m3). When compared to what the market currently has to offer, this cuts most delivery trips in half, saving time and money. Standard features, like the low profile reverse tilt drum, make this hauler easily compatible with any spraying unit. J.S. Redpath Limited purchased the first Transmixers out of production; two units are now in operation at Barrick Gold Corporation’s Storm Mine in Nevada.

The expansion of its Ground Support equipment line-up was a natural progression for MacLean Engineering. MacLean has observed in their customers a desire to work in smaller headings and an increase in use of shotcrete, either alone or combined with traditional bolt and screen methods of ground support. The new Shotcrete vehicles and Small Section Bolter together with the proven “MacLean Bolter,” position MacLean Engineering as a leading supplier of comprehensive Ground Support.

  • uEye® USB and GigE cameras with HDR sensor

The German machine vision specialist IDS is pleased to announce the release of a newly developed HDR sensor for their USB and GigE industrial camera series. This technology allows capturing images with ultra-high contrast and a dynamic range of over 120 dB, which is about 1,000 times more than conventional CCD sensors can provide. The HDR cameras thus open up many new possibilities for applications that have very high brightness differences, such as traffic surveillance or industrial welding.

Conventional CCD or CMOS sensors are far inferior to the human eye in terms of contrast resolution: they can usually only represent about 1,000 brightness levels.

The monochrome HDR sensor featured in uEye cameras uses a different functionality and applies a real logarithmic curve. This allows reproducing extreme contrasts in a single image and significantly reducing visible noise compared to previous HDR technologies. As a result, GigE cameras of the uEye HE series can read out and process the full 12-bit color depth, for example. The FX4 HDR sensor is 1/1.8″ in size and captures up to 50 frames per second at a resolution of 768 x 576 pixels. The frames can be output based on a logarithmic curve or on a linear curve as used by conventional sensors.

With the release of software package version 3.50, the new HDR sensor is supported by all uEye USB and GigE camera models. This latest version also provides support for the 10-megapixel CMOS models and for versions with high-resolution 1.2 megapixel Sony CCD sensor. The software will be introduced at the VISION trade show and can then be downloaded for free from IDS’s website in 32-bit and 64-bit versions for Windows (incl. XP, Vista and Windows 7) and Linux.

A software development kit (SDK) and interfaces for ActiveX, GenICam and popular image processing libraries are also provided to allow easy integration into custom applications. Many sample programs with source code in C++, C# and VB demonstrate the camera functionality and implementation.

  • Pack 201 Flowwrapper for Gentle Packaging of Fruits and Vegetables

    – Modularity offers product format flexibility
    – Slim machine design simplifies operation and maintenance
    – Durable stainless steel design ensures long machine life-cycle

Following the Pack 201 launched in 2006, Bosch Packaging Technology launches the new Pack 201 FV. The medium-speed horizontal flow wrapper is designed for gentle packaging of delicate products like vegetable and fruits. Bosch has upgraded the Pack 201 FV with a carrier chain which ensures gentle
product feeding and minimizes additional heat through friction during product transport. This prevents product damage and reduces waste. Gas flushing of packages before filling and sealing is available to maintain produce freshness and reduce contamination risks, leading to extended shelf life.

Transport belts carry difficult- to- handle products through the folding box into the film tube. The transport belts assure the gentle handling of products and a smooth operation, with no risk of failure. Photoelectric sensors integrated in the tube tunnel enable No Gap – No Seal safety functionality. This function
guarantees that the gap between the different products while sealing is big enough for the sealing jaw to avoid damage of either the product or the machine. This results in reduced product spoilage and cleaning efforts, and minimizes production stoppages for increased efficiency.

During the transportation of the product through the fin seal section, small support rollers on the deck plates reduce tensile load on the film, which avoids film rupture for heavy products. This enables manufacturers to save material costs by using thinner, more cost-effective packaging material.

Simple format changes for packaging various sized products through the stepless adjustable folding box infeed allow for maximum machine efficiency. The HMI (Human Machine Interface) ensures easy operation and handling of
    the machine.

Because some fruits and vegetables have acidic properties that can erode machinery contact parts, Bosch offers the Pack 201 FV in a full stainless steel execution, extending the machine life-cycle and enhancing operation efficiency.

“The Pack 201 FV is designed to withstand the special conditions and production environment associated with perishable products,” says Marc de Vries, Product Manager at Bosch Packaging Technology “The robust machine design accommodates short change-over times in a market where product types vary according to the season in types and sizes.”

A new version of their mechanical vacuum lifter which features a large rectangular suction pad for lifting heavy blocks of aluminum, steel, and plastic is being introduced by ANVER Corporation of Hudson, Massachusetts.

The ANVER M250M Mechanical Lifter requires no external power because it has a self-cycling valve and piston that creates a powerful vacuum when lowered from a crane onto a load until the chain slackens fully and is raised again. Featuring a new 21” x 29” sealing ring suction pad which can be replaced in the field using a common Allen wrench, this energy-saving vacuum lifter has a 2,800 lbs. capacity for feeding cutting tables and machining centers.

Unaffected by power outages, the ANVER M250M Mechanical Lifter is totally self-contained and lets users pick up loads from the top which eliminates the need for magnets, hooks, or grabs. Standard features include all-welded steel construction, a vacuum loss sensor, and an audible and visual alarm. Custom pickup head options are available to accommodate various loads.
