  • Want to make Opera Mini 5 your default Browser?

Since the release of this lightning quick browser for Android, many users wanted to use this as their default browser. I don’t really know why Opera didn’t add this feature to the app but you couldn’t do it. There is now an app that will make this possible.

  • Vodafone UK’s Nexus One launching in “April”?

Today Vodafone has updated their “Coming Soon” page for the Nexus One to “Coming Soon/April”. From looks of it, it could be a mistake. Why put up an April release in the last days of April? It has been almost four months now that Vodafone customers have been waiting for the Nexus so if this is true you can possibly put in your order today.

I checked the Google phone page and it still says coming this spring. This phone will likely get the same subsidized treatment as the T-Mobile version. So whenever it is available get ready to get locked in for a specified amount of time, that isn’t a bad thing trust me, it’s a great handset and it will guaranteed get the rumored 2.2 before every other device.

  • MyTouch Slide Gets Delayed?

Word around the web has pegged May 17th as the rumored release date. The new rumored release date is June 2nd. Neither of these days has been confirmed by T-Mobile or HTC so take this information with a few grains of salt.

Nobody knows exactly when this phone will be released or why it’s being delayed. Maybe it’s because T-Mobile doesn’t want it to interfere with the HD2 sales? Or maybe they don’t want to run out of them and have their customers wait for new shipments. Who knows, either way there are a bunch of people waiting on the release of this awesome Android handset.

  • SmartDevices SmartQ V5 and V7 getting Android 2.1 update

Everyone is getting some Android 2.1 love these days. The SmartQ V5 and V7 MIDs from SmartDevices will receive an update to Android 2.1. This updated will bring live wallpapers, 3D acceleration, a new UI and improved Bluetooth capabilities. The only thing missing will be multi-touch, their resistive screens is the reason for the omission of this feature.

If you’re not familiar with these devices, they make great media player and is also good for web browsing. They are similar to devices like the Android Archos series. V5 comes with a 4.3 inch screen and V7 has a 7 inch. Both are resistive and also has 600MHz ARM11 processors, hardware acceleration for 3D graphics and video, 256MB RAM, 2GB local storage, support for SD cards, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, support for the major audio and video codec’s, 1080p HD video playback, HDMI/AV outputs, and USB 2.0 OTG. Another great feature of these devices is the fact that they come preloaded with Android, Ubuntu, and Windows CE. This is one of the most versatile products of any kind available.

  • Automatic App Updates Will Be Included In Android 2.2?

For now, let’s chalk this up in the rumor category. A user from 4Chan has posted a few pictures of a myTouch running Android 2.2. He says a new feature in 2.2 will be the ability to set the market to automatically update your apps when they become available.

We’ve seen our fair share of fake screenshots in the past but this one looks like it could be real. All of us have had days where we just don’t want to update apps over and over. This new feature would make this process as painless as it can be. The only downside I see in this is when an app is updated to a broken version or to one that has limitations put on it. But, over all this will be a good thing especially if they can incorporate some way to downgrade apps back to the original functioning version. 2.2 are rumored to be released next month so if it does, we’ll see if this is true or not.

  • Dell Aero details confirmed with new leak

This offering from Dell is a bit toned down from the recent leaks but is still a great device. The Dell Aero will be released for AT&T sometime in the second quarter. It has a 624 MHZ processor and a few other tricks up its sleeve.

Like the Moto Cliq and a few Sense devices, the Aero will come equipped with QuickOffice. And for you business people, it also has Microsoft ActiveSync and Exchange support. The browser has Flash lite support and there is a very good music player that will have some sort of music streaming and download ability that is protected by Windows Media DRM. It does have two things going wrong for it though, it has Android 1.5 and its going to be on AT&T. 2.1 is expected to be pushed to the device sometime later in the year.

  • Dell Looking Glass tablet leaks with Tegra 2

Dell is on a full on Android assault, they have many new devices in the pipeline. Seeing as how they entered the game late, they are positioning themselves to offer the most Android devices in the market. This tablet is similar to the Dell Mini 5, aka the Streak, it is a seven inch tablet. Rumors have this thing set for a November release.

This tablet will feature Android 2.1 on a Tegra 2 processor, with an optional TV tuner module so you can watch ATSC or DVB-T. It can also render slideshows via AT&T Uverse. It also has 4GB of RAM, another 4GB of flash for storage and an SDHC slot for up to 32GB of expansion, and there’s a 1.3 megapixel camera. So if you wanted the Streak but want more screen real-estate, this is the device for you.

  • Dell Smoke brings A New Form Factor to Android

Dell has a lot of new different Android devices entering the market late this year and early next year. This one is called the Smoke, it’s like a slim Blackberry mixed with a Pixi. This device will be targeted towards corporate customers but the appeal of this phone will widen if Dell sticks to their plans of offering this device at a low price.

    Features:
    • 2.8-inch QVGA display
    • Qualcomm’s next-gen MSM7230 processor at 800MHz
    • 5 megapixel autofocus cam
    • 14.4Mbps HSPA
    • MicroSD expansion to 32GB
    • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
    • Dual-mic noise canceling
This phone is also scheduled for a 2011 release, sometime in the second quarter. The carrier has not been announced but it seems as though Dell has a deal with AT&T to carry all of their Android devices. Hopefully AT&T will wise up and stop messing up their Android phones by then.

  • Dell Thunder: Android 2.1 with 4.1-inch OLED, Flash 10 and Hulu

The second leak of future Dell Android devices comes in any color you like long as its black (car guys gets this). This phone will be called the Thunder and with it comes a new UI made by Dell called Stage. Like the last leaked phone by Dell, there’s good news and bad news with this device as well.

This phone is promised to feature Flash 10.1 and it will include its own Hulu app. Not much is known about how this app will work, my guess is it will function similar to the YouTube app that is included with Android. It has a 4.1 WVGA OLED screen. And like most new phones, it will be heavily social network integrated. Not much else is known about the specs, it should be packing nothing less than a 1GHZ type CPU and 512 RAM at the minimum. This phone is set for a release on AT&T, yes AT&T later this year and an LTE version will follow it sometime early 2011.

  • Dell Flash Will Feature Android Froyo and A Boat load Of Other Goodies

Dell seems to be raising the bar with their second generation Android devices. This is the first of two that has just surfaced around the web. This phone will be called the Dell Flash and it has some great specs, but there is a down side to this awesome device.

For now this phone is just a prototype of things to come from Dell. This phone will supposedly be cut out of a slice of “curved glass,” topping out at 11mm thick with a 3.5-inch WVGA LCD. It will also be capable of 14.4Mbps down and 5.6Mbps. other features include a 5 megapixel autofocus cam with image stabilization and smile and blink detection, 512MB of RAM and ROM with microSD expansion up to 64GB Wi-Fi, TV-out, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 3.0, and a Qualcomm MSM7230 core humming along at 800MHz. now on to the bad news, it has 850 / 1900 / 2100MHz HSPA bands. We all know this at AT&T bands and if they continue their current trend of stripping Android devices, expect this to be stripped down as well. If you want to get your hands on this, you’re going to have to wait till sometime in 2011.

  • Xperia X10 With Multi-Touch Support?

One of the main features some people is multi-touch. This topic in regards to the X10 has been debated over and over. Official word was this device did not have the capability of supporting multi-touch ever. A video has just surfaced that could prove this wrong.

Towards the end of the video, Google Maps is opened and it’s zoomed in, pinch style. There has been a rumor that an update will be pushed out at some point that adds MT to the X10. Maybe this is a demo of that update? Who knows, only time will tell?

  • T-Mobile USA Announces Garminfone

It’s been a long time coming but the long awaited Gamifone has been announced for a T-Mobile release. Garmin was one of the first members of the OHA, promised to produce an Android handset, seemed like it would never come to fruition. This may be the first announcement of great Android devices for T-Mobile.

As expected the Garmifone will be loaded with a bunch of navigation orientated applications. One of the main features will be Garmin Voice Studio; this app allows customers to record custom voice directions from family and friends. This handset features a 3MP camera and 3.5 HVGA touch screen. Included will be a car dock. Unfortunately, this will be an Android 1.6 device, since its being released later in the year, 2.1 may be loaded on to the handset. I can’t wait to see how this stacks up to Google Maps.

  • There are 38,000 Apps Are in The Android Market

This is a great accomplishment for Android. The market is growing faster than most of us anticipated. This was revealed during this afternoon’s Q1 earnings press conference, Jeff Huber who is  Google’s senior VP of engineering. Also, Google views the Nexus One as a “profitable business” even though most analyst feel it didn’t sell enough units overall.

Android use is up 70 percent from last quarter, and there are reportedly 60,000 Android phones sold every day in the world. The popularity of Android coupled with the ease of app development is attracting more and more developers to the platform. Developers have more freedom over Android than they do over other platforms(iPhone’s in particular). These number will continue to grow at a fast pace so expect more great apps soon.

  • HTC:Android Tablet, 1080p Video Recording, 5.1 Sound in the Works?

Given the natural progression of mobile technology, this could possibly happen sometime in the near future. Phonereport.info is reporting that HTC has an Android tablet in the making that will have full 1080p recording capabilities as well as 5.1 surround sound. And some of these features will make their way onto some of their handsets next year.

These allegations have reported come directly from an HTC rep named Quinton Leigh. They are fully capable of pulling this off, let’s take the HTC EVO 4G for example. This phone has an HDMI jack that can output 720p video that is good enough to rival most DVD players. It wouldn’t take much to but it up to full 1080p resolution. This rumored tablet may be closer to production than we think, it can’t come soon enough for me.

  • Twitter Has An Android App In The Works

Twitter held a conference called chirp earlier today and Evan Williams announced they will launch their own Android app. Details of the app has not been mentioned, they could take over an existing app or develop their own. Since the beginning of Android, Twitter apps have been among the most popular apps available.

TwidRoid Pro is one of the best Twitter apps available and its one of the most popular Android apps on the market. There are a few others that have some nice features, the Twitter widget that comes with HTC Sense is also a great Twitter client. They have some tough competition in the third party apps but, last Saturday Twitter released very popular and highly polished Twitter application for the iPhone. This should be a free app whenever it does come to Android and from the looks of things, we may not have to wait long.

    Thanks for the tip, constellanation

  • HTC Hero Getting 2.1 At The End Of April: Confirmed

Sometimes just probing around pays off, a guy from ThisAndroidLife sent an email to HTC asking about some rumors he heard about the 2.1 update. Surprisingly, an HTC representative sent an email back letting him know exactly when to expect the update.

“Some of the phones in our Android line up including your Hero are due to receive an upgrade, and it is scheduled to be released starting at the end of April. Your phone should be upgraded Over-The-Air. You can expect a pop-up message on your phone when connected to the internet once it is ready. When the upgrade is ready, we will notify you via our website and on various social media networks including Twitter and Face book”

The statement above is from HTC. There you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. If you have the original Hero, you can expect this update by the end of the month. The rest of the Sense UI devices should be upgraded shortly after.

  • Game Gripper Turns the Droid into A Classic Controller

Things like this are what make phones with physical keyboard awesome. Granted, this may be possible with an all touch screen device but it will surely be a tougher feat to accomplish. Game Gripper has successfully converted a Motorola Droid into a classic controller.

For only $14.99 this can be yours. It has been tested with GameBoid, Nesoid, and SNesoid. If I had a droid I would be all over this. Nesoid is one of my most used apps and this controller will make playing a breeze and more enjoyable. Head over to Game Gripper and purchase yours now.

  • Another Android 55″ LCD TV

One of the best things about Android is its ability to power a variety of different things. We have seen it on  everything from kitchen appliances , watches and now there televisions. This is the second Android powered television that we have seen, Google has plans of introducing their own Android-based television.

This television will make its way to 10 different countries including in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Australia, and Dubai. Unfortunately the US is not on the list, I’m sure it will make its way here through other means. This TV is designed by NCPG in Korea. This TV has an ARM processor running at 833MHz Cortex 8A, USB, HDMI, S-Video port, D-Sub, DVI, and Component. It’s also has a backlit LED, 120HZ and will feature Android 1.5. If you remember, the last television has 1.6 so the television market is fragmented as well(pun). This TV supports ATSC / DVB-T / DVB-C / DVB-T HD Analog and will come in 42”, 55”and 47”.
