As alot of you know, I work at Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank.

We do more then food and furniture… We are also a clothing and computer bank, and the only one of it’s kind in Canada that does all of these.

We also offer life skills courses and basic IT courses for those getting back into the work place, and every Christmas we do up a dinner that includes everything you need to cook a nice meal at home. Plus we give toys to the kids.

This year we are doing up just over 900 Christmas boxes to be picked up, or delivered. The media covers it every year, and it’s a nice event. In fact myself, and usually my brother pass the turkeys off the back of one of our trucks. I can post a pic of us as well so you can all laugh. 😀

We also provide oil support for those who are having a hard time heating their homes.

Most of our funding we raise ourselves, or comes in via private donations. We don’t receive any government assistance.

I want to post the link to our website, and if you could maybe pass it along to friends and family, and if they would like to make a donation we have several options.

I hope this isn’t considered spam, because there is no profit to be gained here and I get nothing, and it will help people have a decent Christmas this year.

I am kind of going out on my own doing this, and haven’t run it by anyone at work. I have alot of flexibility tho, and I am sure the boss won’t mind, as long as the staff here is okay with it.

If not, of course I would understand if the thread is removed.

I think it would be cool to be married to another Type 1, or a Type 1.5/2 who is using insulin as well.

I’d love to give someone else a needle, and let my girlfriend or wife give me mine. Even at the same time. 😀

I get everyone to give me needles, to make them comfortable with it.

Anyone with any similar stories or anecdotes about being with someone with diabetes who injects as well?

Ok, this may be hard for some t believe, in fact I mentioned it here before.

So I did some more experimenting to verify it.

Rapid acting insulins do nothing for me. Humalog and Novorapid(called Novolog in the US) don’t do much, in fact, in some cases, I will correct, after eating nothign all day, and test again, and I am a point or two higher.

I practically bathe in it. I am very liberal with my corrections and boluses, and I never get ideal numbers(When using rapids).

Now, if I use a normal acting insulin, like Humulin R, I drop, and drop fast, even when my bolus is very conservative.

In fact one of my worst hypos happened after taking 3 units of Humulin R, and within ten minutes. I ate around 70 grams of carbs, just to make sure I covered the insulin, and not the other way around.

This is odd, because Humulin R, et al, are supposed to be slower acting.
