  • FoldTuk Collapsible Bakeware

Their claim to fame is cookware and bakeware that’s made from a special petroleum-free Ceramber material: it’s collapsible, dishwasher safe, naturally non-stick, and can be used to cook food in the oven or microwave, then used as food storage.

Will have to investigate this. It’s quite appealing given our current need to pare down the stuff we’re going to haul out to CA. Is it worth getting rid of most of our current bakeware and replacing it with this stuff?

  • BREAKING: Amazon to Launch App Store for Kindle

All eyes are on Apple as the company prepares to unveil its Tablet device next week. But the dominant force in the e-reader market – Amazon – is about to shake things up in a major way by announcing what amounts to an app store for Kindle.

I love it when I see tech announcements like these that make you think of all of the potential a certain idea has. I also love that Amazon is really sticking behind the Kindle, continuously improving the hardware and software. Yes, the DRM is still worrisome, but in general I love the Kindle for making e-books more mainstream. I’m going to be watching the Kindle “app store” with much anticipation!

  • The best thing to happen to smartphones in 2009: webOS – Know Your Cell

It’s not the most popular OS, it’s not the best-selling OS and it’s not the most hyped OS – but we tell you why Palm’s webOS was the best thing to happen to smartphones last year

Cool article about webOS. Zach had mentioned to me that he feels that webOS is the best smartphone OS out there right now, and my curiosity was really piqued by his statement. He has backed up his claim with a well-thought-out essay on the pros and some cons of webOS. For Palm’s sake, I hope that webOS is able to hold its own against Android, Blackberry’s OS, and iPhone OS, because as a longtime Palm OS user, I loved their devices compared to the bloated WinMo devices of the day.

  • The mystery of the 24 tablet may be solved…

After snagging the following screen captures, I'm pretty sure the "mystery tablet" on 24 is an HTC Shift.  Witness:

Yes, I probably went overboard trying to figure out what this Tablet PC was, but hey, that's what gadget geeks do. :)

  • I see tablets everywhere…

So I was watching the 24 season premiere just a little bit ago (frankly only because I saw Katee Sackhoff would be in it…otherwise I would've been happy not to watch this season :P ) and saw Katee Sackhoff's character Dana carrying a tablet-looking device.  I haven't figured out whether this is an existing computer tablet device, or some other electronic device that they've repurposed for this prop.  At first I thought it was an off-brand e-book reader, but when I looked back in the recording and paused it at this frame, I saw it seemed too thick to be an e-book device.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Buckyballs: little magnetic metal balls that are fun to play with

The fun part about Buckyballs is the way they balls arrange themselves when you stick them together. The balls have a preference for certain crystalline structures. There seems to be a huge variety of structures the balls like to arrange themselves into, as you can see in the video above. (Learn other tricks with Buckyballs.) When I play with them, I feel like my hands are a nanotechnology machine sticking atoms together.

    Via Boing Boing Gadgets

I got a set of these magnets from the hubby for Christmas, and since he liked tinkering around with them so much, that I bought him a set as well. I actually almost bought the Buckyballs for him in the first place, but opted for other fun items. :)

They are addictive to play around with, and yeah, your fingers do get sore from prying the magnets apart because their pull is rather strong. I once made a bracelet out of the set and wore it when I went out (just to the mall, post-Xmas with the fam, nothing special). I’ve kind of set them aside for now, but whenever I need a simple toy to play with, I’ll get them out again.

  • 6 Foursquare Apps We’d Love to See

Foursquare is one of the crucial new social networks to keep tabs on, and for entrepreneur types, the recent release of its open API is big news. It may be time for developers to start shifting away from Twitter and start tinkering with something a bit more Square.

Here are 6 Foursquare (Foursquare) apps we’d like to see developed. What other location-based apps would you like to see take advantage of the Foursquare API? Let us know in the comments.

Now that the iPhone Foursquare app doesn’t require you to input an address when you add new places (FINALLY!), I’m going to be using Foursquare more. The 3rd-party app suggestions listed in the Mashable article linked above sound great to me. I’ll have to think of other ideas that might be useful or fun as well.

  • Airstash: A Teeny-Tiny Wi-Fi Router and Card Reader | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

The design is simple, but the uses are manifold. You could use this to wirelessly copy photos from card to computer, but that, apart from saving you a USB port, is a little boring. What about carrying an extra 32GB of movies and music that can be streamed from the built-in server direct to your iPhone? Or creating a fully functional wireless network for sharing, well, anything? Because it uses vanilla Wi-Fi, it works with anything. And because it uses USB, it charges when you plug it into a spare port.

  • Plug-Watch: Cute Power Cube, The Best Adapter Yet? | Gadget Lab

Power plugs. You hate them, I’m obsessed with and fascinated by them, so here’s something for both of us. The Cute Cube not only looks great, it solves pretty much all the annoyances of a multi-socket adapter.

Cute indeed. The problem is that this doesn’t have a manufacturer yet. Somebody get on that, stat! Hope to see this in stores soon.

  • TiVo feature request

I turned on the TV and some obnoxious talk show was on.  I wish I could block TV shows on TiVo so that I would never have to see or hear them by accident.  I propose that the screen be blacked out and audio turned off, with an onscreen message indicating that the show is blocked.  Of course, the block could be reversed.  The commercials could still be broadcast like normal so that advertisers don't get their knickers in a twist, but anytime the blocked show is on, the screen would be blacked out and the audio would be muted.  This would be super awesome. :)

  • Ugh, depressing reality is depressing.

This quote from the job listing linked below is why the job market
depresses me: “You may be this amazing candidate and be an incredible
fit but lack these skills and are even willing to learn them, but the
reality is a million people are going to apply for this job, and
**we’re not going to take that risk on you**.” (emphasis mine)

  • Illuminating article about an extraordinary old-school Polaroid camera

"The most spectacular instant camera has to be the Polaroid 20×24. Created in the 70s in a exciting vibrant ‘can do’ environment at Polaroid, the 20×24 is a fantastic photographic feat.  An even larger beast, the 40×80 was also created, but the 20×24 still manages to capture people’s imaginations, maybe due to it’s slightly more portability, the 40×80 was almost just a room with a lens attached to one of the walls, and wasn’t exactly portable! At least the 20×24 has wheels…"

  • Makes mouth happy

If you combine these four ingredients (can of white and dark chicken,
mayo, sriracha, and Bacon Salt), you will have a kickin’ chicken salad
that will make your mouth very happy. :) I’m sure it would taste even
better if the chicken were homemade roasted chicken. And used real
bacon bits. And maybe if I used Kewpie Mayo instead, it would be even
better. But for something I whipped up in about 5 minutes, no muss, no
fuss, I’m quite happy with the results. I had the chicken salad on
toast with shredded lettuce for dinner last night and happily had it
again for lunch today. I passed up having a McRib meal so I could have
this instead. If you know me, you know that’s saying something. :D

  • Extinct tech

Ha, awesome! If we weren’t in the slow process of moving, I would buy one of these “fossils” in an instant. One more thing to add to the “after we’re in CA” list. :)

  • H&M sucks

I already hate H&M for an alleged racist incident in the Chicago store against a Filipina, but this article cements my feelings about this lame company. It’s completely pathetic that so much clothing goes to waste when it could be distributed to homeless shelters and thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army. At least Wal-Mart made some kind of statement, even if it could be completely “all talk, no walk”. H&M doesn’t even have the courtesy for a sound bite. >:P BTW, I would have the same feelings against any store that wastes clothes like this. It just so happens that this article calls out H&M and Wal-Mart.

  • Inklet turns your MacBook trackpad into a tablet | Macworld

Has your inner artist been on a hunger strike, protesting to be let out? Or is he or she more of the red-paint-on-fur-coat activist type that’s angry about the high cost of Wacom tablets? Regardless, Ten One Design’s new Inklet app may put an end to your suffering, as it can turn an ordinary MacBook trackpad into a pen tablet.

Awesome sauce! I am always looking out for new ways I can ink blog using devices other than my Toshiba M200. I just recently ordered the Ten One Pogo Sketch stylus because it is supposed to work on my iPhone AND the trackpad on my MacBook. I figured that I would try inking in Skitch to test out the Pogo Sketch, but this Inklet app sounds like an app I need to try. I wonder how Inklet compares to ArtRage, an app that I used a lot on my Tablet PC (I actually miss it), as far as compatibility with the Pogo Sketch? I’ll be sure to blog about it after I’ve received the Pogo Sketch (slated to arrive on Wednesday).
