  • Flooding in the Morning

What a morning we are working up to.

Get to my office and find a large amount of ice at our front door and thought, well this can not be good!

Opened the door ( secured facility with air tight doors… so they say ) to get this GUSHING of water coming out, i swear there had to be 6 inches of water on our floor as it just came gushing out!

Look in to see the place just totally saturated.. Lights are on and power to the unit just water covering the floor everywhere.

Turns out the hot water heater they installed Friday one of the joint in the new plumbing let go.. So we have 90 percent of our electronics right now fried in the office my computer is on a rack mount so i am good to go but what a day it working out to me.

A ton of work ahead of me i guess i don’t need to worry about going for that morning walk to bring down my BG as i have been up and down our stairs atleast 50 times in the last hour 😀

  • Numbness.

    Hey guys,

Over the last few months i have notice that my left leg seems to fall asleep pretty easy but thought not much of it.

The last 3 days i have noticed and tonight concerned me that my left leg from my knee down felt numb ( Pins and needles mildly ) but really only for a few mins and went away. Tonight i was just taking a shower and noticed that my left leg did it again however little more onset and also noticed some mild cramps in my stomach on my left side?

I was taking to the hospital about a year go due to burning and pain in my feet and after test it was suggested i had "Diabetic Nurpathy" or something of that nature and the ER Doc gave me a prescription for "Apo-Amitriptyline 25MG".

I started taking it and really felt groggy and tired on the meds, when i searched them up it said it was a "Anti Depressant" so i assumed the ER thought i was depressed and looking for attention and my feet where feeling better so i stopped taking the med and never really thought about it again until now.

Could what i am feeling have something to do with this and has anyone ever seen or hear of this drug being used for nerve damage?

  • Missed meals / Dosage?

Hey guys what happens when you do the above?

Just asking as today was the first day in a LONG time my daughter slept, Usually she has us up by 8am on a weekend so we never set an alarm. She just woke us up now. So i have pretty much slept through my breakfast period and had a very long fasting.

Currently i woke up to a 6.7 (120.7) and i am going to eat some eggs and toast and take my morning meds. Typically i would do lunch between 12-1 which of course would not be my 2 our post should i still eat then? Maybe just do a light lunch and still take my lunch time pill?

  • Test names and Meanings?

    Hey guys.

Talking with some behind closed doors and got a couple of Pm’s regarding information, its such a helpful board. Some are asking about my levels and such maybe i am getting things mixed up so i called my Doctors office and finally got a live person and explained to them that I was going to see a "Support Group" and they needed my sugar levels from my last test.

Test July 22nd 2008 ( which they asked me to come in and get a referal for to get more work done before my feb Dr appointment )

    Glucose Tolerance Test – 22.4 mmol/L
Glycohemoglobin – 16.4 mmol/L( refered to this when i asked what my A1C test results where) said A1C was a American term?
    Uric Acid – 540 mol/L

Can someone decipher this for me 😀 I will be picking up the lab request tonight after work and hopefully go and get them done this weekend.

  • My 5 Day update!

First I would like to thank everyone here, I think if I had this sort of a support network almost 2 years ago I would never have had many of the problems I have had.

One of my big issues is my Bipolar I can go from being the happiest guy in the world to trying to kill myself pretty much over night. Due to this getting my mental status under control was my big top priority and has been for the last year as I had made several attempts on my life in the year prior.

Over the last 4 months we have see a huge improvement on regularity in my mental status, and I feel confident that I can handle both my mental and no my physical health together.

Over the holidays it hit me worst,
    – Always tired
    – My vision was all over the place
    – Could not keep up with my daughter
    – Sick to my stomach
    – Constantly feeling flush.

In the month of Dec I missed 5 days of work ( Written up for it ) due to the fact I just could not function, I ended up in the hospital twice once with a blood pressure of 240/120. I had finally had ENOUGH!

My wife and I decided it was time and after spending Saturday in the washroom ill we decided it was starting Monday and I would go at it at all cost.

Sunday I was getting BG readings of 16+ Sunday evening a BG of 22, and I had a physical weight of 317 LBS.

My wife and I went shopping and picked up tons of water and lots of veggies Sunday night and off I went.

We are now 5 days later! I have cut back every physical carb I could find and I have stopped drinking Pop and Juice. For 5 days all I have been drinking is WATER and Tea (using sugar twin). For the whole week all I have been eating is Meat and Veggies (No potatoes, rice, Bread or pasta). I have cut out all junk food and fast food (except for the eggs and sausage from McDonalds yesterday.

The one I guess I could say good thing about Bipolar is that one problem is when I do get a idea in my head I go all at it with all I have at all expense. While it may not last long the time I do have the idea in my head its all I have in my head! This is something I need to now keep on track. So due to my illness it made this week pretty simple for me however I am sure when my mind changes tracks which it will do I am sure it will be one of my biggest struggles to deal with.

Now, I have watched my BG readings going from highs… I would be excited if I had anything lower than 14… To where I sit now.. Went to bed with a 5.2 woke up with a 5.4 currently now before my lunch I have a 5.0 😀 .

I have also watched me go from Pains in my feet ( Gout ) daily, I would struggle every morning rubbing them to get the circulation going and taking hot baths at night to the last two days where I almost forgot to take my gout meds last night because they have not bothered me all day and almost forgot. I woke up this morning feeling great I even jumped on my scale after my wife asked if I lost some weight… Wait for it… 303LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!! While many will say a 14 pound loss is bad, this loss was expected I am on my blood pressure med correctly one of with is a water pill so I am sure much of that 14 pounds would have been water retention, but I am very very pleased to see it!!!

    Anyways…

I am sure I have rambled enough and I do hope I can have these kinds of updaters often!!

    Regards, Michael

  • Sugar – 5X Magnification

I was just digging through some of my old photography, took this a couple of years ago when i was first diagnosed with T2.

So i wanted a closer look at what i thought at the time was the thing hurting me, however its just not sugar doing it.

This is just regular refined sugar, shot using a Macro lens at 1:5.

  • OMG! Great…

Just checked as i am going to have some veggie snacks and wanted to see a before and after.

Just checked it 3 times !!! to make sure it was right! 5.6!!!!!!

  • Exercise – Results

    Hey guys,

Say i where to measure my BG right now and then walk around my block for 10 mins. How long after i start/finish exercising would i want to test my BG to see what impact that exercise did?

  • Handylogs – Sugar

    Hey all,

I am kind of a techno geek and am always looking for ways to computerize just about everything i can 😀

Just started to seriously look to control my BG and decided to go looking.

Found this and figured many more would be interested. Its called "Handylog – Sugar" a electronic log system for your Blackberry. You can download a free trial which i am just trying out from blackberry app world and the full version i belieave said it was about $8.

Very handy for those who don’t have the ability to download the monitors regularly.

Check it out, looks like a great idea!

  • Sausage and Egg – With out the McMuffin

Being a guy on the run all the time, i do find although i hope to stop but i do find my self on the road and forgetting breakfast.

What is a good or better fastfood breakfast option?

I was thinking a Sausage and Egg McMuffin but tossing out the McMuffin ( 1 Egg, sausage and Cheese )

  • Hi… I am Michael

Did this a little bass akwards, as I do have a thread with lots of details in the type 2 forums.

Diagnosed with Type 2 just over a year ago did not take it serious had a Glucose test done with a results of 16.4 ( 295.2 )

Over the last year i have been in a lot of denial and other metal issues however over the past couple of months suffering from high BG related symptoms and have been averaging BG 200+

Decided this week to pull my head from where the sun don’t shine and correct it. So yesterday i started take the meds perscriped by my doctor a year ago correctly and work in eating right.

here is hoping to a long lasting online relationship with many of you 😀

  • Normal BG – With Hypo symtoms

Being that i am coming down from a long high.. Averaging 15+ (270+)

Today has been the real first day and current am sitting around 7.7 (138.6)

However i have the shakes and just feel all around weird. I know this common and expected..

How long can i expect this to go on for? And is it safe? I mean i know in a real case of Hypo you run the risks of passing out ect… Do i have to worry about any of that?

    Regards,

  • Type II Symtoms

Anyone who has followed can see i am trying to open my eyes. Seen here

Over the last two days i have had this happening and was looking to see if it was something i could expect, Please check the above llink for other details if needed.

    – Violent Diareha. Got it last night and lasted for about 3 hours, trying not to get too graphic but it was like a water canon out of my back end for 3 hours straight. Tested my sugar at the time and it was 15.8 ( 284.4)

    – Peeing more than normal. I am sure this is because i have gone from drinking no water just pop and juice to drinking 2x 1.5 litre bottles of water yesterday.. lol

    – Woke up at 3am with cold sweats sugar was 12.8 (230.4)

I have had some of these symptons in the past but just looking to see if they are linked to the sugar.

  • New and Scared.

    Hello everyone,

Sorry if this is not the right area to post this however i just found a link and signed up and now looking for support/assistance.

    A little history.

I am 31 years of age, 320 pounds (Down from 410 2 years ago) and a long history of family ailments.

Two years ago the final straw was my mother taking a massive heart attack and my doctor telling me I have a “Fatty Heart” and that if I don’t get off my *** and do something now about it he will have nothing to do with me and I am to find a new GP.

So, In two years I got more active, tried to watch more of what I eat picked up a couple of hobbies /sports that are more active ( Scuba diving and Photography). I have dropped just about 100 pounds in 2 years and my GP has been much more happy with me.

However, a year go I had been having issues.

    – Felt groggy all the time
    – Always tired and wanted to sleep
    – Violent diarrhea
    – Stomach pains
    – Vision issues

My doctor sent me for some testing and came back high glucose levels not sure how it all works out but I did a test had to fast, drink some juice and sit around and have blood taken turned out he said my levels where very high.. the number used was 16.4.

He then said “Mike, You’re diabetic… if we don’t get this taken care of now you will lose your eye sight, and possibly die”. He at that point wanted to put me on to Insulin right away and I was worried about it. Hate needles and hate the fact I need to be on it for life.

So instead he started me on some meds and I got a glucose meter.

Over the last year I will opening admit I have not taken care of myself and not followed any of his suggestions and regret it now, I now have a 16 month old daughter and really need to pull my head from my *** and get my life on track!

Over the last year I take the meds when I think of it, I watch what I eat but then I do binge and just do stupid things, My meter I check here and there some times its 5ish other times its up in the 20’s. I have been in to see my doctor twice in the last year and always tell him I am feeling good and of course taking the meds… Yes I know I lied and should not have.

    So.

Now I need to get my *** on track.. I have another appointment with him next month and I know he is looking to send me in for blood work. I know I can not resolve a years worth of neglect with in a month, however I want to get on track and smarten up so I can walk into his office an say “Hey doc… I F’d up… here is what I did not do… however this is what I am doing.. and look its working..”

Some run down over the last few days.. I know I need to work on a correct diet and such but these are readings I have been getting and the meds I am on.

    MEDS:

    Metformin HCL 500MG ( 2 X morning 1X lunch 2X dinner )
    Gyburide 2.5MG ( 1x breakfast 1x dinner )
    Using a Accu-Check Aviva

My diet is horrible I know and I need to work on it. Keep in mind my readings are messed up as I have not been taking the meds… or taking them correctly.. I have starting Monday..

I get up at 6am and my reading is usually 12.6 – 17. I don’t drink coffee but will grab 8oz glass of juice ( Apple or Cranberry whatever is open for our daughter) and a raisin bagel with butter.

I do a 1 hour drive to work ( pretty stressful ) and by mid morning I can get pretty groggy.. I have checked my sugars mid morning and they average 15+… Monday when I really got freaked out I was really dragging butt and check my sugar it was 21.4

Eat lunch ( often fast food due to my work )

4pm drive home, eat dinner around 6:30 when my wife is home and then typically in bed by 11pm.

During this time my readings are between 12- 20ish. Some days lower other days higher.. I only seem to check it when I feel funny and find them up. I do have a habbit of snacking at night and drinking non diet sodas!

    Now.

Since Monday I have been taking the meds as prescribed and I do need to test correctly and record them better, I am going to try and get over to shoppers drug mart and download the meter to give correct readings.

This morning I got up had cereal ( Oatmeal plain with a little brown sugar and a glass of koolaid ) Before breakfast I checked my sugar and it was 10.7… Took my meds ate and drove to work. Checked it at 9am when I got to work and organized and its now 12.4 ( Is this common )?

I do have a Stirfry and water for the day and a couple of apples to munch on..

Now I know I really rambled in this post.. hopfully most can make heads and tails from it.

Any help / assistance and reading materials would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Regards,

    Michael Lambert.
