A new name, a new segment, a new car. Is there a more fascinating challenge for a car designer?
Bold and surprising design was what the Audi team was aiming for in 2007 when it designed the A1 project quattro for the Tokyo Motor Show and again in 2008 for the A1 Sportback concept for the Paris Auto Show.
Both studies are emotion-packed visions for a new, young target group and the particular requirements of city driving, and have been systematically refined ever since.

2010 New Volkswagen Polo GTI
2010 New Volkswagen Polo GTI
The new Volkswagen Polo GTI has been unveiled, promising to be the fastest, most focussed and cleanest performance VW Polo yet produced.
The original performance variant of the Polo was unveiled in 1986 in the form of the G40 Coupé – a car that mixed a fast-revving, 113 PS, supercharged engine with a low kerbweight and sharpened responses.
Fast forward 24 years and the new Volkswagen Polo GTI bears similarities with the G40. At its heart is a 1.4-litre TSI engine that uses a supercharger from idle through to 3,000 rpm at which point the turbocharger cuts in to provide boost. The result is an output of
180 PS at 6,200 rpm and 184 lbs ft of torque from 2,000 rpm which, when aligned with a 1,184 kg kerbweight, allows the Volkswagen Polo GTI to accelerate from rest to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 142 mph.
Despite a keen focus on performance, the new VW Polo GTI is capable of delivering 47 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting just 139 g/km of CO2.
The TSI engine is linked to a compact seven-speed, twin-clutch DSG gearbox that channels drive through the front axle. In addition, the Volkswagen Polo GTI is fitted with the XDS differential, an electronic cross-axle traction control system for improved traction and handling. The XDS system is a functional extension of the electronic limited slip differential (EDL) which is a part of the standard ESP system.
In order to sharpen responses, the Volkswagen Polo GTI is fitted with new springs and dampers which results in a 15 mm lower ride height than the conventional VW Polo.
Like its Golf GTI sibling, the Volkswagen Polo GTI features significant aesthetic changes. A new front bumper featuring a deep airdam is joined by a honeycombe grille element with horizontal red strips and a simple GTI badge. New headlight units complete with the option of LED running lights lend the Volkswagen Polo GTI an imposing new look.
Further back, a subtle sill extension wraps around the lower edge of the body while at the back a new rear bumper features a small diffuser and a pair of chrome-tipped exhausts. The Polo badge is replaced by a simple ‘GTI’ version.
Finally, a set of 17-inch wheels identical to those fitted to the VW Golf GTI are fitted along with a set of red brake callipers.
The changes continue inside the VW Polo GTI with revised dials, a new, flat-bottomed GTI steering wheel complete with small gearshift paddles and contrasting red stitching, aluminium pedals and new, heavily bolstered front sports seats finished in tartan trim. Subtle gloss black trim covers the centre console while the headlining is now finished in black.

2011 New Volkswagen CrossGolf
2011 New Volkswagen CrossGolf
The new Volkswagen CrossGolf is debuting in a world premiere at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with new styling, new TDI and TSI engines and new equipment. After the classic Golf, Golf Plus, Golf Variant, Golf GTI and the Golf R introduced just a few weeks ago, the range covers six very independent models. However, among one another they share the high-tech components of an innovatively conceptualised modular system toolkit. For example, the new Volkswagen CrossGolf, as well as the previous CrossGolf, were developed based on the Golf Plus. The Cross, as an all-around vehicle, bridges the gap between the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) and SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle); that is, it unifies the variability of an MPV with the ruggedness of a SUV. Common to all of these vehicles is the higher seating position that is in more demand than ever.
In initial markets, the new VW CrossGolf will already be available for purchase in April 2010. Buyers of the cleverly designed five-door will be able to enjoy a new generation of engines that offer huge fuel economy advantages. These engines are exclusively direct-injection turbocharged petrol (TSI) and diesel (common rail TDI) engines. They are as agile as they are economical. This is illustrated by the example of the Golf Cross 1.4 TSI with 118 kW / 160 PS: The (from 1,500 rpm) 240 Newton-metre strong turbo- and supercharged petrol engine (Twincharger) enables a top speed of 207 km/h, but when shifted by a 6-speed gearbox it has a combined fuel consumption of just 6.8 litres of fuel (equivalent to 159 g/km CO2). Even compared to the 20 PS weaker TSI of the first generation car, it shows a fuel consumption advantage of 0.5 litres. As an alternative the TSI is available with an optional 7-speed DSG; in this case too fuel consumption is 6.8 litres. Other available TSI engines are the variants with 77 kW / 105 PS and 90 kW / 122 PS.
As would be expected, the new common rail TDIs of the Volkswagen CrossGolf are extremely fuel-efficient. They have power outputs of 77 kW / 105 PS (1.6 litre) and 103 kW / 140 PS (2.0 litre) and are paired with a standard diesel particulate filter. For example, the 140-PS TSI, shifted by a 6-speed gearbox, consumes just 5.3 litres of fuel (138 g/km CO2). The torque of this engine already reaches the impressive maximum value of 320 Newton-metres from 1,750 rpm.
With the exception of the 105 PS TSI, all other engines may be combined with an automatic, the direct shift gearbox (DSG). For the petrol engines and the 105-PS TDI, the 7-speed version is used; in the case of the 140-PS TDI, there is a 6-speed variant specially designed for extremely high torques. In addition, the entire engine range of the Volkswagen CrossGolf fulfils the strict Euro-5 emissions standard.
As is usual on the Cross models, the mirror caps are always painted in silver and therefore the same colour as the underbody guard of the front bumper. Harmonising with them are the likewise standard silver roof railings. The exterior styling is rounded out by chrome accents and “CrossGolf” signature on the side trim as well as new 17-inch alloy wheels (“Budapest”).
On body colours: Volkswagen is offering the new Volkswagen CrossGolf in six exterior colours – from the continuing trend colour “Candy White” to “United Grey”, “Reflex Silver Metallic”, “Shadow Blue Metallic” and “Cashmere Brown Metallic” to the classic “Deep Black Pearl Effect”.

Toyota Auris HSD Full Hybrid
Toyota Auris HSD Full Hybrid
Toyota is rolling their spin machine on the new Toyota Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept.
The study will have its moment in the spotlight at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month, before hitting the salesroom floors next year.
Even though the car can be driven either on petrol alone, or just electric, it can also run on a combination of the two. Unfortunately, the engine’s power figures do leave quite a bit to be desired.
Although it uses a reasonably sized engine, featuring a 1.8-liter displacement, it only manages to put out 97 horsepower.
This leads to a 0-100 km/h time of “around 10 seconds,” which means that the car probably hits 100 in 10 to 10.5 seconds under lab conditions, and maybe a second slower in the real world.

2010 Peugeot 408 Launch in Beijing
2010 Peugeot 408 Launch in Beijing
The new Peugeot 408 marks a further step in the Marque’s offensive on the world’s foremost automobile market. Despite being present on the Chinese market for 5 years only, the Peugeot Marque sold over 410 000 vehicles in 2009. This corresponds to a 44% sales increase compared with its 2008 performance.
Following its fine performance in the M1 segment with the success of the 307 saloon and the 307 notch-back, of which 3,522,800 have been produced worldwide, Peugeot is now quite legitimately embarking on a Chinese market offensive with its new Peugeot 408
This new prestigious notchback tailored for the Chinese market will serve to reinforce Dong Feng Peugeot’s product offer on the M1 segment that accounts for over 45 % of the total market.
In this manner, the new Peugeot 408 should enable the Lion Marque to increase its sales volumes by over 30% in 2010, compared with 2009, and thereby to grow at twice the forecast pace of the market.
This half-height architecture notch-back saloon has been designed and developed jointly by Peugeot’s Styling teams in Europe and China and meets three objectives: embody the Marque’s modernity, guarantee maximum safety and offer unrivalled interior space.
The 408 name follows the Lion Marque’s traditional naming logic. The figure 4 refers to the size of the car (4.68 m) and its positioning in the medium-luxury family saloon segment. The 0 in the middle signifies that it belongs to the Peugeot Marque, while the 8 expresses the vehicle generation.
With this name, the Peugeot 408 naturally falls into place within the current Peugeot range and becomes the forerunner of the 8 series, the latest generation vehicles to be launched on the Chinese market.
The Dong Feng Peugeot 408 is the fruit of work by the joint venture set up between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the Chinese group DFM. The car is being produced at the Wuhan plant in Hubei province in China. It is positioned to become one of the market’s benchmark vehicles with a full-year sales target of 100,000 units.

The Ford Fiesta Sedan will be launched in China within months of its global reveal. It will be built at Ford’s new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Nanjing.
“This Fiesta writes the next chapter in our small car success story and builds on the widespread appeal of the Ford brand in China.
Style-aware Chinese consumers will appreciate the uniqueness of this car that expresses their individuality, style and aspirations,” said Robert Graziano, president and CEO, Ford Motor China.
The Ford Fiesta Sedan will be manufactured in China using the same advanced technologies as does its European counterpart.
The body structure is manufactured with extensive use of high- and ultra high-strength steels to significantly increase strength and rigidity, while also reducing weight and improving fuel efficiency.
These advanced steels also provide Fiesta with an increased measure of occupant protection.
The Ford Fiesta Sedan has been tailored to satisfy customer wants in China. Carrying out Fiesta’s global strategy, additional variations of the all-new Ford Fiesta Sedan will be available across Asia and North America from 2010 with production from Thailand and Mexico supplying these important markets.
However, Ford Fiesta Sedan will not be distributed in Europe.

The BMW History
The BMW History
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG or Bavarian Motor Works in English is commonly known throughout the world as just BMW. Another German luxury car conglomerate that has branched out over the decades into the manufacturer of high quality luxury-performance motorcycles and cars, including the subsidiaries of the ever poplar and unique MINI, and super luxury car brand Rolls Royce.
BMW has come a long way in maintaining a reputation of class and distinction that for a time no one could surpass and they were deemed as the ones to beat. They emerged in the early 1900’s when every other automobile manufacturer was also entering the race for the top.
The current headquarters of the company is in Munich, Germany, in an architectural masterpiece of a structure that stands with poise and prominence, very much like what BMW exudes.
BMW can officially trace its beginnings all the way back to the trailblazer days of the German air transportation all the way to 1913 and later became a public company in 1922.
The men from these initial days were accredited as being the “founding fathers”, Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto, but the actual men that were part of the founders party were the ones with it from the beginning: Max Friz, Josef Popp, and Camillo Castiglioni. They were the ones responsible for taking the company through many rough times in the beginning, and also the ones to take the company public too, finally forming “BMW AG”.
The logo of the company has been stagnant since the start of the business; the blue and white checkers were derived from and symbolizes the Bavarian flag, whereas the circular badge is somewhat taken from the logo of its forefather company “Rapp Motorenwerke”.
BMW first major endeavor was radio flyer engines, but their engines the BMW 132 and the BMW 801 both air cooled radial engines, and the innovative BMW 003 axial-flow turbojet were included into pre World War II and World War II aircrafts. They also began experimenting with a number of various products in the earlier years, but in 1923, BMW finally moved into the stream of major motorcycle manufacturing, and subsequently on to car production 6 years later.
BMW were having some trouble with the motorcycles and their engines with the unsuccessful Helios and Flink, but decided to push on with the development, ultimately securing their first distinguished motorcycle, the R32.
It had a “Boxer” twin engine with an ICCE cylinder sticking into the airflow from both sides of the engine. Up until 1980s, BMW basically kept to the same design effect with huge success, and the pattern is still used on some level today, which is clearly showcased in the R Series motorcycles.
Other motorcycles and engines that BMW has produced are: R75 (sidecar), K Series (water cooled with 3/ 4 cylinders running from front to back), F Series, G Series (both with parallel twin Rotax engines), R1100S (“hexhead” engine), R1200GS (“oilhead” engine), and the latest the K1200S. BMW also pioneered many safety features for motorcycle usage, both on the road and on the racetrack.
The production of BMW’s cars came with strong skepticism, and their own internal critics kept them an their toes at all times. BMW had a strong perception for potential and stature, and even their first set of automobiles were appealing to both the imagination and the eye example their BMW oldtimer, 319/1, 936 BMW Model 319 4- Window Cabriolet, and last but not least Model 507 roadster.
BMW created many, many cars and most of them were given the “e-code” branding (Entwicklung, meaning development or evolution), and BMW recently stated that the naming would switch over to an “F” for future models, starting with F01 7 Series.
The care and time BMW put into their vehicles allow for a personal connection with each one, and this kind of personalization goes a long way with the business’ public. BMW also made a couple James Bond cars; the Z3 M Coupe, and the Z8 roadster, becoming the first non-British car to ever be featured in the film franchise.
BMW has relationships with other companies besides its two subsidiaries Rolls Royce and MINI, which include but not limited to Glas, Isetta, Automobilwerk Eisenach, Land Rover, Wiesmann, AC Schnitzer, Bavaria Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH, Alpina, G-Power, Breyton, Hartge, MK-Motorsport, and Hamann Motorsport.
The partnerships and alliances with these companies have made BMW, a very resourceful entity, with situations covered from all angles. The Motorsport aspect of the BMW lineage has been essential over decades, as history shows that they have a definite stamp of approval in performance, and speed. Some of the motoring cars are the 3.0 CSL, M1, M3, M5, M6, M Roadster, Dixi (3/20, 303, 309, 315, 319, 320, 321, 325, 326, 327, 328, 329, 335), Isetta (600 700), 501, 502, 503, 507, 3200 CS, 2000 CS etc.
BMW also has its own wide range of Motorsport cars, and teams with the BMW Sauber F1 Team being their first ever Formula One racing team, but having many other partnerships with Williams F1, Brabham, and Arrows.
As BMW have won about 19 grand prix as engine builders, but not under their newly formed F1 racing team, but the company has risen to may heights in the racing arena, winning titles, championships, immense accolades over time, and has improved their technology especially in quality and performance. They also have done a lot for sponsoring with Formula BMW, a junior racing Formula category, and the Kumho BMW Championship.
They also have a rich history with Sports car racing, winning approximately 25 different tittles and races, also with their touring cars with strong drivers, and incredible performance since as far back as 1940.
They also have two major rallying cars in their records with RAC Rally race 1939 winner 328 sports car, and Paris Dakar Rally, which BMW motorcycles won about six times.
BMW models are put into Series format and with a lot of them still in production: the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series with the M5 model, 6 Series with M6, 7 Series, X3, X5, X6, Z4, BMW M, M3, M5, M6, and Z4 M. And there are many more future models on the way, signaling the movement of the direction of the company in the right direction: Z10/ M10, X1, PAS, CS, X5 M etc.
BMW also has a number of prototypes and concept cars on the way as well, with their sights set on keeping the distinction and excellence throughout everything they put their name on. They are set on keeping that strong unshakable history stronger and the years roll by and technology becomes the main player, as they strive in the aspect of acceleration, majesticness, and safety all in one comfortable ride.
