What you are about to see is perhaps the most beautiful automobile ever created. It has the presence of an Italian supermodel and the power of a well seasoned prize fighter. This is the 1969 Lamborghini Miura S, and with its mid-mounted V12, scrape-the-ground stance and symphonic exhaust note, it may just be the world’s most perfect automobile.

The thing about trends is that you never know just how long they’re going to last. Case-in-point; heavily patina’d cars with modern conveniences and drive-trains. For most of us, the idea of driving around in a rusted hulk is downright repulsive. But what if they were done up, and done up right. This was the vision that Jonathan Ward, founder of ICON Derelicts, had when he embarked on an automotive adventure that he hoped a few discerning enthusiasts would follow.

    BMW R 1150 GS

I’ll be honest, one of the last places on this Earth that I’d want to go is the Arctic Circle. You see I hate the cold, like REALLY hate the cold. I know I’d be missing out on the picturesque beauty and tranquility, but at days end I’d find a way to deal with it. Murph (the guy in this video) is different. So different in fact that he went to the Arctic Circle on his trusty BMW R 1150 GS motorcycle. Even though he may (or may not) have a screw lose, I’ve got to give the guy credit, as this is one thing I’d never attempt.

Like I said, I hate the cold.

It’s been said that the greatest things in life come in the smallest packages, and the Fiat 500 is the perfect example. It’s got zero cargo space, is slower than the fastest snail, and is about as reliable as well – a Fiat. However what this little bugger loses in performance, it more than makes up for in personality. You see this is a car that makes you smile. It makes the sun come out on a cloudy day while at the same time, bringing joy to all those who see it. The Fiat 500 is not just a car per say, but moreover, it’s a little bit of joy that rolls slowly on four wheels.

  • Ridelust Review: 2013 BMW X6 M

    2013 BMW X6 M

PRO’s: Outstanding performance, extreme all-weather versatility, spacious enough for a family of 5.

CON’s: Peculiar styling, high price tag.

FINAL THOUGHT: An amazing SUV/crossover that may well be one of the fastest and most versatile vehicles that BMW has ever produced.

If you’re not sure whether the 2013 BMW X6 M is a car, truck or crossover, don’t feel bad because you’re not alone. You see this things got an identity crises, a bad one, and because of that consumers have been perplex by the X6 since its debut in 2008. I just spent a week with BMW’s X6 M and I can tell you this, I still have no idea what the hell it is, but I fell in love with it, and hot damn if it isn’t a riot of a performance vehicle.

    2013 BMW X6 M

Right off the bat you’ll notice the X6 M is different. It looks like nothing else on the road, runs a massive wheel and tire combo (front 275/40/20 rear 315/35/20), has enough grunt to flat-out embarrass most performance cars and is equipped with huge 15.6-inch front brake rotors that would stop a 747 that’s coming in for a landing. It’s also got more technology than the space shuttle, does an equally good job of defying gravity, yet, is just as home at a track day as it is hauling groceries home from the market.

    2013 BMW X6 M

When I took possession of the X6 M the first thing I did was look at the monroney (window sticker). The price, as optioned, was a whopping $100,895.00. That’s a big number, but one that, after romping on this thing, is really not that crazy. Think about it like this.

    BMW X5 M One Lap

Here’s a vehicle that packs a 4.4-liter Twin-Turbo V-8 under the hood that makes 550 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. It runs to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, is electronically limited to 155 mph and has a personality that’s part Vegas stripper and part housewife.

    2013 BMW X6 M

The Vegas stripper part will obviously excite and entertain you, while the housewife portion will let one lead a proper upstanding life. For instance, there’s comfortable seating for 5 adults (the front seats are OUTSTANDING), plenty of room for luggage, it’s all-weather capable thanks to BMW’s all-wheel drive system and with every safety feature known to man, is probably the best place to be if something were to go wrong. Now granted fuel economy sucks at 12 city/17 hwy, but thanks to a large 22.4 gallon fuel tank, you’re still able to run around 300 miles between fill-ups.

    2013 BMW X6 M

Here’s some additional food for thought. Last year I ran a BMW X5 M in the One Lap of America. A vehicle that from a mechanical standpoint, is essentially identical. The race itself is a 3500 mile run around the United States that includes running on 8 racetracks in 7 days. It’s without a doubt the most grueling rally style event held in the U.S., and if you and your car make it, then be proud, very proud.

    BMW X5 M One Lap

I drove that thing as hard as I would any performance car, and not only did it do well, but it exceeded my wildest expectations. I ran 152 mph down the back straight at Road America, was lifting two wheels off the ground at Hallet Raceway and hauling luggage for four adults over the 400-600 mile transit legs. In short, I was astonished at how good it was.

    BMW X5 M One Lap

That experience also helped me justify the $100k price tag, the same one that’s on this X6 M. And while the majority of owners will never partake in an event like One Lap with their X6 M, the fact you can in a vehicle like this is mind-boggling.

    BMW X5 M One Lap

I still can’t help but wonder though – why did BMW produce this thing when they already had such a great SUV with the X5 M? It just doesn’t make much sense to me. However, they do say that variety is the spice of life, and if that’s truly the case than rest assured that this 2013 BMW X6 M is hot enough to satisfy every one of your automotive needs.

The temperature here in Northern, CA is supposed to hit an unseasonably hot 95 degrees this afternoon. That means old cars will over heat, people will go to the beach, and air conditioners throughout the region will be set on full blast. This is not a bad thing mind you, however it does make me think back to those snow filled days of winter when I lived in New York. It may sound a bit strange, but if you were to tell most people that you can have a relationship with your car, just as you do with say a dog or person, they probably laugh in your face. Automobile enthusiasts however see things differently, as our cars represent not only our freedom, but our memories. Take your first car for instance. You may not know where it is, or what’s become of it, but I can guarantee you’d like to see it again. The Lexus IS350 F-Sport has been completely redesigned for 2014. That means new body panels, a new interior, and a V6 engine that pumps out 305 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It’s a nice car, it really is, but with a V6 engine note that sounds like a hopped up sewing machine, it’s not really my cup of tea. • Ridelust Review: 2013 Infiniti M56 Sport

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

PRO’s: Beautifully styled, comfortable and sporty interior that’s loaded with tech. Strong V8 offers great performance.

CON’s: Vague steering, high price tag.

FINAL THOUGHT: A nicely appointed sports-sedan that offers plenty of performance and luxury with a image that’s a big departure from its German rivals.

When you think of a mid-sized performance sedan, the odds of a BMW 5-series popping into your head would probably be pretty good. However there is another vehicle out there that’s trying to encroach on the 5-series dominance. It’s imported from Japan and comes in the form of this – the 2013 Infiniti M56. On paper you’ll notice that all the correct bells and whistles are in place. It’s got a big V8, rear-wheel drive performance and thanks to the optional technology package, has just about every option you’d ever want. However, does all of this power and tech make for a good and sporty automobile? Click through to find out.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

The M56 has remained virtually unchanged since its last redesign in 2011. One look will tell you that it’s decidedly Japanese. It’s lines are free flowing and possess a very organic feel, which is something that continues all the way through the cars interior. Under the hood lies a 5.6-liter V8 that produces 420 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque that’s put down through a smooth shifting 7-speed automatic transmission. This particular M56 was also fitted with the optional Sport Package. A $5,650.00 option that gets you things like 20-inch aluminum wheels, active 4-wheel steering, a sport-tuned suspension, better seats and a kick-ass 16-speaker BOSE audio system.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

On the road the 2013 Infiniti M56 is almost as good as you’d expect from a $70,000 sports sedan. However it’s not great, which is really what I was hoping for. The suspension comes with two settings, STANDARD and SPORT. STANDARD does an “okay” job of soaking up road imperfections, however those 20-inch rims and low 40-series tires unfortunately still let a few bumps sneak through.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

SPORT mode stiffens up everything from the steering to the suspension, however there was still a pretty noticeable disconnect and vagueness through the steering wheel. Throwing the car hard into bends meant putting your trust into the engineers as opposed to the car itself, something that is a bit hard to do when driving at the upper limits. Now don’t get me wrong, this thing does handle quite well, so take that comment with a grain of salt.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

Acceleration from the 5.6-liter V8 is brisk and launches you to 60 mph in just a tick over 5-seconds. Very respectable considering the M56 weighs in at over 4,000 lbs. The brakes are equally impressive and bring the M56 down from speed with very little drama or nose dive.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

Once inside you’ll see why the M56 has such a dedicated audience. Fit and finish is spot-on and all the materials used are of high quality. The center stack for instance looks as though it came directly from the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. Sitting dead-center is a nicely sized touch screen that can be activated manually through use of the control knob or via a simple touch. It’s not as intuitive as other systems out there, but it won’t take you a decade to figure out either.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

The optional 10-speaker BOSE audio system sounds outstanding and will cut audio instantly in the event you receive a call via the hands-free Bluetooth system. Combine that with the fact that you can control all of the vehicles audio, navigation and communication options through the steering wheel and via voice activation, and the system becomes one that you’ll find yourself relying on constantly.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

Other notable options like the heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and paddle shifted transmission are also nice touches and things that you’ll become used to very quickly.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

When it comes to comfort the M56 doesn’t disappoint. Driver and passenger are treated to wonderfully supportive seats, as are the passengers in the rear. Even the door panels are nicely sculpted and visually, help to truly enhance the overall feel of the M56.

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

And now for the answer to the question of: Is the 2013 Infiniti a true sports sedan, or simply a nicely appointed luxury sedan with sporty features?

    2013 Infiniti M56 S

Answer: The 2013 Infiniti M56 is a true sports sedan. It’s not as crisp or engaging as some other models out there, but all the right pieces of the puzzle are there and they do work well together. Therefore, if a new sports sedan is in your future, the 2013 Infiniti M56 is definitely a car you should check out.
