Should Pennsylvania have a state firearm? One state senator is giving the idea a shot. Sen. Pat Browne, R Lehigh County, is sponsoring a bill that would designate the Pennsylvania Long Rifle as the state’s official firearm.

Lawmakers are debating legislation that would make sure gun owners can’t be prosecuted for showing a weapon to warn someone who is threatening them.HB78 modifies existing law that bans threatening someone with a dangerous weapon in a fight or quarrel. The proposal would exempt from that prohibition anyone who displays a weapon or claims to be carrying one as a self defense measure.

On Wednesday, a House committee voted to advance Senate Bill 40, sponsored by Sen. George Munoz, D Gallup, which would allow those with a concealed carry license to bring their guns into restaurants or bars that serve liquor.

On Thursday, January 27, the Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing on LB 817 in the Judiciary committee hearing room # 1103 at 10:00AM. Introduced by State Senator Kent Rogert (16), LB 817 would allow Concealed Carry Permit holder to use their permit in lieu of a state issued permit to purchase when trying to purchase a handgun.

The Kentucky State House unanimously passed House Bill 19 last week by a vote of 95 to 0. Sponsored by State Representative Robert Damron (D-39), HB 19 allows military personnel who are on active duty to renew their concealed carry license early and by mail. It also allows for those military personnel whose license expires while on active duty to renew the license within 90 days after the end of their deployment, with no late fees or other penalties.

On Tuesday, January 12, Assembly Bill 1384, the â??Citizensâ?? Protection Actâ?? was introduced in the New Jersey General Assembly. It has been referred to the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee where it is awaiting a hearing.

The Quezon City police district said Tuesday it wants to institutionalize the implementation of total gun ban."It’s good for the city and the community," City police director Chief Superintendent Elmo San Diego said. He added that a total gun ban would help remove illegal guns from the streets, thus reducing crime incidents like gang wars.San Diego admitted that a total gun ban would take some time and would need amendments on current legislation.
