  • 1 hr or 2 hr – Confused!!

Ok now you guys have really confused me! I was happy to play along and record 2hrPP but after reading the post about peaking at 1 hr etc .. I am a little confused?
As a new T2 – when is the best time to check? Also I thought it was Ok to have a surge /spike after eating but that it should go back down within 2hrs ( is that correct) Isn’t that why we test at 2hrs or have I got this thing all wrong? Need to know what the proper "procedures" are for checking our bs.

    Thanks:D

  • Can someone explain why

I decided to exercise in the morning instead of in the evenings where it’s been quite hot lately so – before I jumped on the treaddy – my bs was 5.2. I did 45 min walk/jog – total of 5.5 ks. When I took my BS my reading was 6.2 (?) Had a shower got ready for work – maybe an 45 mins later before b/fast took another reading – my bs was 6.

I was wondering if this type of training would have been the reason my last A1c was up. The first 3 months of DX my A1c was 5.6% but only with moderate exercise. The following three months with much more vigorous and sometimes exhaustive exercise (body Pump and Running 1 hour everyday) – ranging from 6 -7 days a week my AIC was 5.9%.

Could too much exercise affect my A1C?

  • One Month After Xmas…..

    ‘Twas the month after Christmas,
    and all through the house,
    Nothing would fit me,
    not even a blouse.

    The cookies I’d nibbled,
    the chocolate I’d taste
    and the holiday parties
    had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales
    there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber),

    I’d remember the marvellous meals I’d prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I’d never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt…
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can’t spend a winter, disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

    I won’t have a cookie, not even a lick.
I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won’t have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

    I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore…
But isn’t that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet.

  • How accurate are A1C test and what do they

determine? First 3 months after I was first D’xd I was just learning about diabetes (through this Forum mostly) and incorporating moderate exercise – and some form of low carbing.

My 1st A1C results came back as 5.6%. I was happy with that and so thought to better this percentage I went all out with the exercise the following three months except for about 3 weeks between the Xmas and after the New years – where I did’nt exercise at all and probably ate too much of the "bad" stuff like chocolates etc. Had my second A1C in Jan ’10 which came in at 5.9%

What I want to know is : what do I change to better this number? reduce the exercise and not go so extreme like the first 3 months after d’xd? since d’xd I have dropped my weight my 10kgs and body fat content by 7%. I would have thought this would have accounted for a much better A1c result.

My meter readings have always been pretty good – no extreme highs or lows and fasting level have usually hoovered around the 5.00 to 5.3 mark (except for this morning where I ate late and meal was carb loaded)!

Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Thanks all.
    Donna.

  • Help – Vitamin D question on dosage please

Hi all – I am currently taking Vit D x 3 @ 25mg per caps. Is this enough? Would it be alright to double the doses? I want to get the most benefit of this vitamin but am not sure if I am taking the right amount.
    Thanks,
    Donna.
  • And the Results are in!!!

Ok not good – Everything up Chol / A1C etc – Good news thou my HDL has gone up to. Doc wasn’t too concerned as he knows I’ve been on Holidays since 22nd Dec 09. My A1C went up to 5.9% from 5.6%:( and my LDL went up from 3.7 to 4.5
Admitted to Doc – that during holidays and what with the extreme hot days here in Perth – running and pumping weights has taken a back seat – but I am back at work on Monday so will resume a more "normal" routine than "chasing sharks at the beach" Total weight loss since dx is 10kgs – so although levels are up – we will test again in April and this time I am sure to kick butt!

One comment doc did make – which I don’t even take seriously was – no need to be concerned – your doing great – you have good control. I am only concerned if youe levels were 7 and greater…..HELLO? Told him I am striving for a A1C of 5%
His reply to that was: Even I don’t have an A1C of 5% – said it was impossible?????

I just nodded and took off !

  • 2nd A1C test

Hi Everyone, had my blood test done today for A1c and Cholestrol etc… am seeing the doc’s on Thursday for results. Fingers crossed my BS over the last 3 months will be better than the 5.6% result from the last test – but what with the hot weather and the Xmas celebrations – who knows what it is going to be!!:(
  • Merry Xmas to all

I would like to take this time to wish all my dear friends on DF a Very Merrry Christmas and A Safe and Happy New Year.

I want to thank everyone for all their help and support in helping me achieve control with my "D:!

I also would like to say that without this Forum and the Very Special People in it…. life with D would have been so hard.

So… Thanks again to everyone from DownUnder and please have a SAFE Holiday.

God Bless and Peace be with each and everyone of you.

    Best Regards,

    Donna.:D 😀

  • Another Question / Thought

Regarding Type 2 – If we were overweight and this caused IR – if we loose the weight would we then become less resistant to insulin? For example what happens if after loosing 10kgs and BS are still the same as before loosing the 10kgs – do we still have to loose more weight? How much weight do we need to loose before we can consume "a little more carbs" in the diet without it affecting our BS? Or does it NEVER HAPPEN? taking into consideration YMMV.
  • Am I doing damage when

After a higher carb meal – my PP at 1hr was 163 at 2 hrs it was 133 and 3hrs it went down to: 93

I have been feeling a bit flat lately and decided to have some "bad" carbs in my lunch time meal – namely a Beef Pie and as a result the above readings. Is this high BS doing damage to my body or is it ok to have something like this occassionaly?

  • Sad News

Hi All – I received rather sad news last night – My mums best friend ( in her 70’s) passed away from a diabetic coma!. She was schedule to have both legs amputated and was in hospital – but (am not sure of events) went into a coma and passed away. She was a very vibrant lady who loved her Food, and unfortunately did not have her bloods under control!

Anyway her funeral is on Friday and I will "learn" more of what happened.

    🙁
